Is good for me? Large breed, not a coat like a Labs. Short haired. Calm, easy to handle. Energetic, easy to train. Good temperment. Not too energetic (not Lab energy) willing to please. I am saying this now, this is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay in the future. ;) And I am curious as to what breed fits me the best. I am more curious as to what breed fits me the best right now. Thank you for reading!

Short haired, but not like a lab? So smooth coated like a boxer, great dane or greyhound then?

Calm but energetic?

I'm not sure if you were totally clear on what you're expectations are... can you be a bit more specific?

Also, the breed quiz linked is good, I'd check it out.

Yes, Smooth coated like a boxer, great dane, or greyhound. Energetic dog. (can't have both calm and energetic.)

mmm... I say Great Dane. But I don't know much about them. I have met a few who are lovely dogs, playful when needed but also calm when needed.

Calm in the house, (which I know takes training) When its playtime, energy. If that makes any sense at all. lol
Makes a lot of sense with most dogs of my breed of choice ... Golden Retrievers! Once past the puppy-crazies they tend to be calm couch-potatoes in the house but very active and playful outdoors. The puppy-crazies end at about 2 yrs. old for females, closer to 3 yrs. old for males. (Even in dogs, males mature slower. ) An adopted adult Golden would fit that requirement.

But a Golden's longer coat may not suit your other requirement. Another poster suggested Great Danes. They have the coat you want but you said they're too big. How about an adopted Dane mix? I had an adopted adult GSD/Dane mix, and got him when I lived in a small, Victorian-cottage style house. His size was no hardship at all .... he was very calm. If he was any calmer indoors he would have been comatose ...LOL!! But he sure loved to run and play while outside!!

Well, based just on the criteria here, APBT might be suitable. Of course, they aren't large, but medium. Short-haired. Solid temperament, fun to train and work with. Typically able to turn it off in the house and back on outside. Of course, not a good choice if you want something to chum around with your current dogs, most landlords, and most insurance companies. So while I don't recommend an APBT per se, they do fit all of the criteria listed except the one on size.
