I mostly just soak kibble and freeze it, but I'd like to add some variety. Wet food and peanut butter tend to be pretty common, any more creative ideas?

I usually just do peanut butter and kibble since it's something we always have around.

On occasion I've done yogurt, mashed up bananas, canned food, apples. Leftover mac n cheese would probably be a good one lol.

How long do kongs usually last your guys dogs?
A couple of hours. I'd say 3-4 hours usually. Merlin doesn't LOVE kongs so I suspect he is lazy about them. Once he gets passed the initial "yum" of peanut butter or whatever, he loses interest.

and I hate cleaning them so he rarely gets them anymore now that teething is over lol

I just use canned food. Usually I use a weight control formula because Squash gets a kong in his crate whenever we leave the house (some days that's none, and some days it's multiple and it can add up) and everyone gets one at bedtime. They don't last long, but they're just a happy crate treat/bedtime snack so I don't really care. If I want them to last, I'll freeze them but even then maybe 30-45 minutes tops.

Peanut butter, wet food, pumpkin, plain yogurt, dehydrated meats, carrots... Other random things I think they may like.

They last a good 45 minutes or so. But I always get a nap out of them! :rofl1:

Everything but the pumpkin is pretty fattening though, so I tend not to give them too much as I have a Fatty Peanut Head, ie Rider, who gains pounds like his mom.

I mostly use canned food, soaked kibble, and dehydrated/freeze dried stuff. Occassionally some "fun stuff" like peanut butter or cheese. Everything is moist and frozen.

They get a Kong nearly every day when I leave for work - they last about an hour or so? We started them originally to help with Missy's seperation anxiety, and now it's just part of the routine.

My dogs' favorite seems to be crushed treats, their regular dog food, and either peanut butter or gravy and then frozen (I make my own gravy for this so its SUPER thick and doesn't moosh all over the place) It usually goes over pretty well. :)

Hey, me too.

I don't even know how long it lasts, because I only ever given kongs when I'm going out. A while, I'm assuming, but the pit bulls I've fostered have all liked them even foodless, so that probably helps. Nothing in my house was ever destroyed and my neighbors never complained they barked when we left, so I consider it a success.

Apparently there's a whole site devoted to kong recipes... http://www.kongstuffing.com/

I usually use pumpkin or plain yogurt layered between kibbles and frozen if I want a kong to last for more than a few minutes. The slightly more liquid yogurt really does a good job "locking in" the kibbles so they are harder to get out. If I'm just using the toy as a distraction from my leaving or similar, I just jam a big biscuit inside and we're good to go.

Biscuits take about 3-5 minutes for Kestrel (and Maggie) to unload, about 10-15 mins for Snipe, and Aeri and Ziva think it's impossible and give up after about 10 mins.

Frozen and stuffed Kongs, take Kes and Snipe both about 30 minutes iirc. Maggie emptied them in 20 mins. I haven't really tested them with Aeri and Z.

I really like the Squirrel Dude toys for a harder version of the Kong. A bread crust in a SD toy will last Kes a good 40 minutes and fully stuffed and frozen you're looking at an hour or more. :)

The one in the freezer right now has cream cheese, string cheese, and fresh pet roasted dinner. Sometimes I put yogurt or cottage cheese or wet food as the base and I'll just put in meat leftovers. I used peanut butter once and he threw up like 20 something times in a couple of hours. I might have just used too much but we've decided to play it safe and just avoid peanut butter. He agrees, he stole 4 huge, delicious cookies off of the table once and left the two peanut butter ones on the floor. Pumpkin sounds like a good idea, might have to give that a try.

I do canned dog food or ground raw meat frozen. Whichever dog that comes to work with me gets a kong at lunch time and generally the dogs that are left at home get a kong or femur when I leave. So we go through them quite a bit.
