I don't use woolite so forgive me if this question is odd...but liquid or powder woolite?
Dry laundry detergents are very abbrassive and caustic...I use this stuff to literally strip the first layer of flesh from my hands when oil and grease has stained them...actually I use fresh scent Tide, but same difference.
Liquid laundry detergents are much more mild and I've used them for a variety of things...including washing my critters and myself if the afformentioned stains have appeared elsewhere of if I've gotten grease or oil or something in my hair. Liquid detergents are not abrasive, but are still very caustic. Considering this it is not wise at all to use them on dogs with long hair or dense/dual coats as it's difficult to wash out. Short haired dogs it works great on...and it usually smells better than other varieties of soap and the fabric softeners they have are good for their fur.
Typical proceedure is to dilute a quality liquid laundry detergent 1:1 with water and work into the dog's fur, one area at a time (neck/chest/fore-legs, back/ribs, flanks/hind legs, belly, tail) and rinse very thoroughly before starting the next. It's important to be sure to rinse the dog thoroughly...but this goes for any soap.
Personally, my dogs tend to get the same treatment I do...Suave lavender shampoo and mountain rain conditioner...
...works great. Either that or they go to PetSmart...
