These people live in the same city as i do. I go to school and am in the same grade a the girl on the right. some of their dogs are O.F.A and some are not. They use paypal and offer a 72hr. guarentee, but Dogs not going to be shown are on a limited reg.

What i don't get is that some of the males are champions and most of the females are not or you can't tell.

It looks like they care about animals, but it looks like they don't screen potential buyers enough. they make sure a dog that is not going to be shown by giving a limited reg., but allow people to pay online without screening them. they produce show cockers, but they have me confused.

They care about their dog it looks like, but things they are doing have me confused? What do you think?

I personally wouldn't get a puppy from there, and here's why:

-Only a 72 hour health guarantee? That doesn't cover any of the genetic problems that many cockers are prone to. Many breeders guarantee their pups for years.

- There's a warning that says "The puppies are purchased as it is on the day of sale." So basically, buyer beware. I don't think that's typical of a highly reputable kennel.

-Also, it says that deposits will hold the puppy until it is 6 weeks old. Six weeks? It's actually illegal to sell puppies under 8 weeks old in several states already. Puppies taken from their mothers before 8 weeks can have problems later in life.

-There is no spay/neuter provision or "puppy must be returned to breeder" clause on the pet puppy contract.

-They have had 8 litters in the last 10 weeks. Say they average 5 pups to the litter. That's 40 puppies running around. That's an insane amount of pups for a show breeder. Most don't have that many at one time because it's too difficult to provide adequate training, socialization, and one-on-one time.

-And I agree, I don't think they screen buyers carefully enough. It looks as if you show the money, you get a puppy.

Considering the 14 or so eye conditions cockers can have, and that HD has mainly been bred out and they should be looking for knees and lcp instead. Yikes..

On top of their horrific guarantee.. They may show the odd dog but lord they are byb.. with enough puppies running around they are more like a mill.

I see that have a wonderful family setup as well  And they seem to like to brag about Pedigree dog food too! Plus I counted 15 dogs and 20 puppies. YIKES! Thats 35 dogs. Good luck giving them all the attention they need.

I know I have wonderful breeders.

Just recently (last Friday) Bailey diagnosed with a neurological disease, most likely "Cerebeller Cortical Abiotrohpy" aka CCA. He just turned 2 years old yesterday and has had seizures since mid September (that I know of) and at that time he was about 17 months old. He didn't have them often at all but in March he had 2 and they were longer in duration and worse. He is now on Phenobarbital which is the same thing as they treat common Epilepsy. Any brain seizure activity is genetic whether or not the parents have ever had one, one or both of them are carriers.

I contacted my breeder and she was just sick and had never had any pups that she knows of that have had seizures of any kind. And she's contacted all of the owners of Bailey's littermates. She telephoned me and stated she wants to "make this right" for me. Well, giving Bailey back is not an option and she, as a breeder will take back any puppy, at any time in its life. I told her that the medication and blood tests he will require weren't very expensive etc. and that I'm sure he will be OK for the time being if the seizure activity is circumvented. She said, her offer of helping in any way is a "standing offer" good at any time.

She has not bred Bailey's mother since Bailey's litter was whelped but his father has been several times in the past 2 years. She has asked that my vet prepare a report for her vet so that they can see everything observed, notes, etc in order that they might do investigation into the sire and dam.

In the future, Bailey's condition will not affect his mental capabilities but his motor capabilities will be affected and already are but only minimal and not all of the time. There is no lab test per se to tell if a dog or puppy has CCA before the onset of various symptoms and then you have only the symptoms of various types to go by and Bailey exhibits or has exhibited them all. I told the breeder that this was not her fault and that "things happen", that there was no test that could have been preformed on the sire and dam prior to breeding that would have said one or both of them were carriers of CCA. All of her dogs and puppies come well tested CEA, OFA etc. But when a breeder has a contract that spells out in detail they will stand behind their puppies then you have a good breeder. A breeders contract says a lot about them ethically coupled with their reputation as a breeder. And I have no doubt that when the time comes (whenever that might be) that Bailey passes away, that this breeder will offer to give me another puppy.

that's what i thought, but wasn't sure. it wasn't just me.

and there is a law it in IN that says pups that are imported or exported under 8 weeks or age for the purpose of sale must be with their dam. i think it also says there is a big fine.

If you bothered to actually read a bit on this forum rather than googling your kennel name and making a post like that because the replies weren't full of "OMG! COCKER PUPPIES! They're soooooooooo cute! You should totally buy one!" you would find that we are not at all against responsible breeding. Your breeding program is so far from responsible it can't even define 'responsible' anymore. And no, I wasn't aware we had so many puppymillers on chaz.

YOU SHOULD REALLY GET TO KNOW A PERSON AND TALK TO THE PERSON BEFORE YOU JUDGE THAT PERSON ALL OF OUR PUPPIES WAS SOLD TO PET HOMES ON LIMITED REGISTRATION OR SHOW HOMES.
The OP wasn't judging - I think that was pretty much everyone else, though. And FYI we don't have to know you to judge your breeding program, we wouldn't even have to know much about breeding to realize that your program isn't good.

PEOPLE THAT REPLIED TO THIS QUESTION SHOWS TRUE IGNORENCE THEMSELVES
Yeah, coming from someone who thinks caps lock and red font is in while spellng, grammar and punctuation are out.... I'll trust that statement! (Anyone else find it amusing "ignorance" and mis-spelled?)

AKC KEEPS RECORDS AND HAS INSPECTED OUR FACILITY
I bitched about this in my guest blog for Dekka - the AKC inspecting your facility is not something to brag about! It's a red flag that you're a puppy mill. They usually a) only investigate facilities that have had many complaints since they don't have a lot of inspectors and b) they only investigate large kennels with a minimum number of dogs who breed a certain minimum number of dogs per year. Basically they only investigate puppy mmills. It's like bragging that your kid's baby-sitter is being closely watched by his parole officer!

WITH THAT SAID WE HAVE HAD MANY POTENTIAL BUYERS THAT HAS TRIED TO PURCHASE PUPPIES FROM US FOR THE ASKING PRICE AND WAS SIMPLY TURNED DOWN[
It's really sad when a breeder has so little to brag about that they state with pride they have turned down buyers. I know a pet store that has done that, too, so congratulations.

WE ALL CAN ONLY TRY TO DO THE BEST AND THE RIGHT THING FOR THE PUPPIES
Yeah, try health testing (hips/elbows; thyroid; and the many eye problems Cockers have), feeding a decent food, and evaluating buyers more closely.

AND ONE BAD THING IS FOR PEOPLE THAT HAS DISREGARD IN THE WORLD OF SHOW BUISNESS TO SET BACK AND BASH BREEDERS AND CALL THEM PUPPY MILLS WHEN THEY SHOULD ONLY BE LOOKING IN THE MIRROR AT THEMSELVES SINCERALY ALICE OF WUNDERLAND COCKERS
Show biz? Seriously?

Most of us a) are not breeders and b) do not show dogs. So try again. You could probably call us ignorant. Wait, you already did that. And it's already been proven over and over on this forum that msot of us are neither stupid nor ignorant. My bet is that that you'll call us evil or stupid next.

LOL! I re-read the rules after to make sure I hadn't broken any.. I'm just pissy today.

Yeah, I think they googled their kennel name and this came up. Hang on, I'll go try it and see. The funniest part is that no one would even have noticed if it hadn't been bumped.

ETA: Nevermind. she must have came here specifically to search for it. The google links that come up ARE, very interesting, though, especially the one on ripoff.com. ;) http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=alice+in+wunderland+cockers&btnG=Google+Search
