Hey, hubby and I have been looking around to get a second dog... he really insisted on getting another puppy from the breeder but I think I might have him convinced to go for a shelter one. We came across this one:

http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=5217416

What do you think?

We have a seven month old sheltie at home and would just love to get her a playmate. THe only thing I'm worried about is I've had people telling me female dogs usually don't get along with eachother in one house hold. Is this true? does anyone have any experience with this?

She's a cutie! :)
Not sure about the female dog thing, but I know chloe and maggie got along fine. I think it's better to give it a try if you really want her just let the dogs meet before adopting. But I don't have much experience.

Yeah i'm gonna see if I can do that. This " take me home" rescue group thing tho works a little different, they don't really have any shelters and only few foster homes. They are kind of a long distance group that helps dogs from other shelters all over the place and stuff to find a new home. here's the webiste:

http://www.petfinder.org/shelters/ON21.html

I will email them and get more info.

Females can be taught to mind their manners with each other. You just have to let them know your are the head b$%^tch. I have 4 females that live together all different ages, each one was brought into the house as puppies and my sharpei is the matriarch so to speak. One thing about females is when the do literally fight it is usually dead serious not alot of noise like alot of males will do. But my girls know better than think about it. They have their tiffs but that is as far as it goes. I never allow them to rough house too much because this usually will end in a major argument.

This is my opinion not that probably anyone cares and probably not a very popular one either but I would never adopt a dog I could not see in person. It is a big enough risk adopting these unwanted dogs as it is with all their baggage they usually bring, let alone getting one sight unseen on the word of some individual you do not know that is only interested in placing a dog. She's cute...but I would see if maybe you couldn't find a male dog closer to you, that way you could go see it and lessen the chances of battles.

I've heard the same advice as what Old Dog said before...that if you get another female it has to be younger so you have a logical pack ranking. The next dog I'm getting will be a female, and it's going to have to contend with a male and female. It will be a puppy though, so it should be a bit smoother.

she is a beautiful girl! I would maybe try to find one closer to you though, and get a chance to meet them, play with them, watch your pup and the potential adoptee play... just my 2 cents :) (she is gorgeous though...wish she lived close to me...wait no I don't, I DO NOT need 3 dogs...keep repeating that to self... :D )
