I would wait until Maya gets better at fetching, because those balls go FAR. I see the retriever people at the dog park using these to launch balls to the middle of the lake for their Labs and Goldens to bring back.

I have one... I dislike it. Try a Chuckit, my dogs just adore it! (hehe that rhymed!)

If there are no tennis balls, Ilsa is content to carry the Chuckit stick around... she goes bonkers for that thing!

(In fact, she'll try to knock you over if you're holding a Chuckit stick.... as this photo illustrates! BAD GIRL! ;) )

i agree, i hate that thing.

i have a chuckit, but we find it hard to use around rah because you need to be fast - if he has the option, he will carry the chuckit around and steal it out of your hands. an 85 lb dobe launching himself at you to get the chuckit is more than some people can handle ;) when others are around, we have to be quick and distract him.

i agree tho, i would work on fetch and recalls - does she have any desire to come and to fetch yet? if not, start with the basics

Kim - must be a dobe thing! I haven't seen any other dogs try so desperately to get a chuckit stick from the person holding it! My Chuckit is scarred and mangled from Ilsa's teeth!

Sawyer loves his Chuckit too! He just really sucks at bringing the balls back, he'd rather lay down and chew on them or have another dog chase him around. We're working on it.

Vizsla... thats what I thought. I had a friend who has one for his Yellow Lab... I think we had as much fun with it as Shwag (the dog)
