So.. Without getting into too much gory detail, my brother(21) has one of several addictions, one being marijuana. So the problem is is that he has it legally- He was diagnosed with a disease that would enable him to get the perscription- Well he was mis-diagnosed, and the problem he originally had was solved with surgery about a week ago. His doctor that gives him these year perscriptions is an incompetant moron and doesn't actually LOOK into his files, so she didn't know he was misdiagnosed months ago and he still goes to get that perscription.

What can we do? We do not know her name and my brother has nothing left for us to threaten him with to get her name. There are over 30 doctors in the area that he lives in, and that's if he goes to a doctor in that city. Obviously the doctor shouldn't even have a license if she doesn't look into her patients. Is there anything we can do?

Another one of his doctors that we do know the name of, perscribes him an addictive drug. We have called him over and over, TELLING him that my brother is addicted and he won't hear any of it. He UPPED his dose to 90 pills a month, and my brother goes in for extra and gets it. *sigh* Is there anything we can do about this one?

I'm just so lost, IDK where else to turn. We are trying to get him help but we can't, and he is legally getting more and more of some of the drugs he's addicted to. *sigh*

Thanks in advance.

I don't know about from a legal stand point.

But you can't force him to get help unfortunately. If he can no longer get it from the Dr's and he is truly addicted he is going to find other ways to get it... illegal ways. But that's not to say these Dr's shouldn't be held accountable. But it's only going to be a temporary fix.

He has to want to help himself.

It probably sounds cliche but I think right now the only thing you can do for him directly would be to stage an intervention.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help but I obviously no nothing about the legal aspects :(

Agree ! But if you know which pharmacy his prescriptions are from , his records should show the Drs. name . Also , who ever did the surgery would have his doctor's name . Good luck !!!

Even if you get his prescription cut off, marijuana is ridiculously easy to get illegally. Unfortunately you can't help people who don't want to help themselves.

You CAN report the doctor who is giving him the prescription to the board. You can bet your brother isn't the only patient he's accessing drugs for.

Unless your brother has demonstrated he is a danger to himself and/or others, there's not much you can do other than to stage an intervention, as Sparks suggested.

Thanks. My brother is beyond intervention. We have tried everything. Drug addiction isn't anything new in my family, so we know what to do and how to try and help him- and he doesn't even think he has a problem(so why does he need help? *sigh*). Anyway,

The reason why I wanted to know if we could do anything to see if we could get that weed license away is so when we find that he has some, we can call the police and he can be arrested- we cannot do anything if it's legal. That's the point we are at right now.. The only option we have left. What he's doing now, the doctors have told us, he won't live to be 25. We have 4 years to help him and we are running out of time. *sigh*

Thanks though. We'll keep hoping.

Other than reporting the doctor, yeah, I don't think there's much you can do in terms of legal action.
