Hi guys, I've just adopted a local breed puppy from SPCA a week ago and he is approx 2months old. He is my first puppy and I find he's very friendly and lazy hehe. But i have many curiousity on his ability. I named him "Happy".

As he is nothing compare with other 'branded' dogs, i have few doubts on him. Well, I've been personally trained him to 'come, sit, stay, go and etc', none of it succesfull except eat (lol)...

And Happy doesnt seems to be excited when he see me back from work. He doesn't even bother when i leave for work. Wherelse, when my brother or sis-in-law leaving for work,he will keep barking and show some affections. I dunno wat's wrong with me thou. Well, actually I happened to hit him before, will it be the reason why he is 'ignoring' me?

Happy doesnt bark to stranger and yet become very friendly whenever outsider or neighboor calling him. It's kinda dissapointed as I thought he can b my best friend and at the same time look after my house when we are not around.

Is it normal that local breed doggie cant be trained like those 'branded' dogs? Or is it my training method is wrong? Can someone enlighten me?

TQ..anyway, this is my 'Happy' : )

He's only 2 months old, give him time :)

Please don't hit your puppy. He may become nervous and hand-shy, plus it's not very effective.

*Happy is adorable!

Did you hit the dog on purpose or did you bump into him by accident?

Dogs are incredibly good at determine where punishment comes from--and they respond to it very intelligently. If you go visit some relatives and as soon as you arrive at their house they smack you with a stick, how are you going to feel towards them?

This is an infant puppy. Nothing that he does or will ever do warrants hitting or other physical punishment. That's great that you are trying to train him, but how much time did you give him to adapt to his new surroundings?

Are you constantly in his face trying to teach him things or are you providing a loving, nurturing environment that makes the dog feel safe? Let him get accustomed to his surrounding before you try to make him perform behaviors for you.

How do you respond to his ignoring you? Do you try to force him to give you attention or do you take it in stride and continue with your normal "coming home" ritual?

actually i hit him in purpose..once as he pee inside the house. i totally regretted for my sinful action : (

i'm constantly train him, at least 30min a day. But I only get to be with him 2-3hours a day due to my working schedule. maybe this could be the reason he is more attach to my family members as they get to play with him all the time.

ermm, sometimes i force him to give me attention, but last nite he show some improvements after i read the article 'How to train a dog'. to be honest, this is my 1st puppy and i hardly know anything to raise him. but at least now i know where i've done wrong.

thanks all for the advise and comments.

Hitting your dog is inhumane and will only serve to make your dog resent you. If you want to form a bond with him, don't hit him.

You're right--your family gets to play with him all day so he is bound to be more comfortable around them.

Forcing him to give you attention isn't going to get you the quality attention that you want. Let him get used to you.
