Spin off on Julee's thread.

In general, my husband isn't crazy about the Toy group, fuzzy/wire haired breeds, Sight hounds, or breeds that drool excessively.

Dogs. He does not care for dogs.

It's fun.
But Megatron is his dog, no?

Thread related: Tim doesn't like hairy dogs (even if it's poodle hair), he also doesn't like hairless dogs. He probably wouldn't object too much to the kinds of dogs I like, in general.

Oh yeah, that, too- the Poodle hair thing, mainly because of the grooming he sees in the show ring. He enjoyed my grandmother's Toy Poodle when we had her (after my grandmother passed away), although he did comment about her starting to look like a little "foo foo" when I had her groomed. If I could deal with the up keep, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't object to a Standard Poodle. But, even a puppy type clip is more grooming then I want to deal with.

Neither one of us are keen on hairless dogs.

He doesn't know/hasn't met enough dog breeds to really know what he does and doesn't like.

So far he dislikes pugs, bulldogs, boxers, pitbulls, most dogs with short snouts. He's also not fond of the longer snouts, like sighthounds have. (I think we've improved on that opinion after he saw some Chaz dogs :p) He also prefers tails, but, again Chaz dogs have changed his mind a bit.

We have pretty similar tastes.

He doesn't like retrievers in general and Labs in particular. I think what he really doesn't like is dogs who are either really velcro or exuberantly in-your-face friendly and I think Labs are the breed that sort of exemplifies that for him.

He prefers cats to dogs in general, so he gravitates towards breeds that are a bit more hands-off. He likes sighthounds.

Anything with a wirey coat, because to him that means less snuggly.

Terriers, well except for the pit bull type terriers, which is what he suggests every time I tell him I want another terrier. :rofl1:

Basically if its not smooth coated, large to extra large, and muscular he doesn't like it.

He thinks small dogs (less than 15 pounds) are pretty pointless, and less than 25 pounds is only slightly pointless. No brachy breeds, period. Not fond of lots of long flowing hair or tons of curls, but grooming doesn't bother him. He's allergic to drool, so no droolers. And any dog that is just built in a way that makes it non - athletic makes him go, "Why?" Dogs that can't be trusted off leash, aren't biddable, and don't give a rats ass what you think are also no-go's.

He's super picky about dogs, mostly for aesthetic reasons. He likes dogs he meets in person, but there are tons of breeds who he would initially shoot down based on looks. Pretty much all curly haired dogs, sighthounds, spitz, and terriers. And then he can be nitpicky even about breeds he likes - for example he would love an Aussie's personality, but after seeing a bunch of show bred dogs he completely ruled them out and said "No way, too much coat and shedding." Heck, he doesn't even like half of the Welshies we see at shows and he *loves* Welshies. He's weirdly picky.

-Any fluffy curly coated (poodley/doodly) breed
- any breed smaller than 35 pounds (that is not a frenchie or jack russell or pug)
- HATES MALTESE
-HATES CHIHUAHUAS
- Yorkies
- will actually cringe when he sees a whippet (serious whippet hate)

He doesn't like dogs with squishy faces - spaniels are a big one, show type goldens, etc. Thinks they look dumb. I think the "soft" expression contributes to that, too.

Excessively hairy dogs. He doesn't dislike them really, just doesn't want to own/deal with it.

Asymmetrical dogs. It's an OCD thing I think - not to make light of OCD, I mean it's actually an issue for him, and not just in dogs. He deals with Rowan's spots because Rowan's already around, but definitely does not want to do so in the future. We both like Beezers, but I don't know if we'll ever have one because I don't know how to explain to a breeder that being symmetrical is important. Like... this dog would be fine:

This one would not:

I guess just be honest and say that as superficial as it sounds, I would only want a neatly Irish marked dog. :p

Otherwise he's pretty open, I guess... he likes everything from pugs to GSDs to wolfhounds. Not that he'd want to own every dog, but not other real dislikes.

Mine does not like chihuahuas at all. Most small breeds he dislikes because of their barking nature, nipping, not being potty trained, unsocialized, untrained...

I *should* be able to answer this easily as we've had the conversation many times...

Started off with dogs in general, but a few good experiences and now he demands that I bring at least 1 dog with me when I come to visit. :p

Basically any dog over about 45lbs he wouldn't want to own.
I'm fairly certain with regards to specific breeds there's Huskies, German Shepherds, Mastiffs. Not to say he doesn't like them as entire breeds, but I don't think he'd want to own one...which hey, that's fine by me! More Border Collies!!!!

My husband only likes sighthounds (unless you are in Europe, where Ibizans are classified as primitive type hunting dogs, not sighthounds. In that case he likes primitive type hunting breeds too). :p He thinks corgis are adorable but never wants to own one.
