What breed was your first dog?

When I was about 4 or 5 my dad got me a Jack Russell Terrier named Sparky. It didn't work out though, so he was gone a month or so later. It was just the wrong home for him since we lived with my grandparents, who are NOT matched well with a terrier.
The next one was a rottweiler named Harley when I was 6 and lived with Jason and my mom. He is 9 now and I still get to see him every day.

Our first "family dog" was a Sheltie...
the first dog I "claimed" when I was younger.. was our retired stud Sheltie - Rory.. He was our foundation stud for the kennel.. he was "mine" when he was retired. Fabulous dog.. Ch titles, multiple Obedience titles etc etc.. VERY good boy. Still miss the little guy..

Riot is my first dog Ive purchased though.

Cody, and American Eskimo Dog (standard) and not at ALL the typical eskie. I was 2 when he got him at 1 year old.
He was a family dog, but kind of mine, i guess. I was always with him, training him, walking him, brushing him, etc.
Milo is technically MY first dog, a Jack Russell Terrier. (yes. i am the loon who gets a JRT as a first dog.) i would never ever recommend one as a first dog, but since i grew up around dogs, did so much research, etc. it wasn't like i was a clueless first time owner. anywayyyyyy.

when I was 5 years old, my dad brought home a large beagle, he planned to use him for hunting purposes. Well, poor Bulldozer was not the best hunter....but he sure was a lover!!! then our family aquired a beautiful pure bred English Setter who had been abused and neglected. Her name was Dutchess, and she was the sweetest dog on earth. After those 2, I did not have another dog until we got Traveler for our (then) young family.
My very first dog was a Shepherd mix named Frisky, but we didn't have him nearly long enough:-(
The dog I grew up with was a standard Dachshund named Mr. Phipps. He belonged to my aunt, but she got sick and couldn't care for him, so my parents took him in. I spent most of every waking moment with him for years. He used to walk up to my neighbor's house (no leash laws then) every day at the same time. She was an old lady and she would leave a tidbit of steak on her back porch for him every day!
