Technically, when I was 9 my mom adopted a pit bull/ dane mix from a private rescuer, but he was not a good match for our family and she took him back after three months. Then we got a Dalmatian from the city shelter who had a whole range of issues that do not mix well with a family with two small kids so my parents took her back to that shelter after 5 months. Then, exactly 8 years today, we adopted my current mutt-love.

My family's first dog was Gracie, a lab mix we got from the shelter when I was 12. I had begged and begged for a dog for as long as I can remember, but kind of never thought it'd happen until I "grew up." Then one day, completely out of the blue, Mom and Dad walked in with this tiny yellow puppy, we didn't even think it was real at first. She was a "trainer's dog", too, learned tricks very quickly. She's the reason I'm a professional trainer today.

My first personal dog is Luna, my chihuahua. I got her about 3 1/2 years ago.

I was born in to a home with a elderly toy poodle who was a rescue (his family brought him in to he vets at a younger age, around 4 or 5 and wanted him put down becuase they didnt want him any more. They vet went against their backs and kept him alive. Knowing my family ho loved poodles would take him, luckily they did)named CJ. He was my dog as far as any one else was concerned. He died when I was 4. I was sooo uneblivably heart broken , we did everything together. Almost every picture of me and home video of me, he was in the shot. he was just a great old guy.
Then came Lassie, CJ the second and sweetie.

But Blaze is my first dog. Meaning I do the training, the walking, the bathing, the vet care, the food, the toys and I bought him. ect

my first dog was a chocolate cocker spaniel names Paws (Pawsie is what we usually called him). and he is still alive, and in my opinion (besides Beemer) he is the best dog ever. He isnt like a lot of cockers I have met though. He LOVES kids and he will let them tug on his ears and sit on him while he is eating and just laying around. He is fairly mellow at all times. Though he is 11 years old now, but he has been like that his whole life pretty much. He doesnt do the whole excited peeing thing, he has NEVER tried to bite anyone. BUT he does have slight dog aggression.

Okay so I posted in this thread, but for some reason didn't put up a picture. This is Amber and I. I was around 5 in this picture, maybe 6. She was a great first dog, though not the prettiest lab in the world (infact, she and Sierra have a very similar face... wierd).

A cocker spaniel named Lucky.

...I will never own another one because of him.

Because of all his problems, we didn't keep him very long... and I was only about 3 at the time... so the first dog I have a real memory of is Molly. :) She is definitely the reason why I love dogs, and animals in general, so much.

When I was born we already had 2 aged dogs. Jack the staffy/cattle dog mix and Tussy the Border Collie/Stumpy Tail Cattle dog cross.
This is my mum with both of them.

I suppose I havn't veared that far away from these breeds to what I like these days.

When I was born my family had an Irish Setter. I don't remember the dog, but I have seen pictures of him, including several with my brother sleeping on to him. He was a very good dog to us when we were babies from what I have heard.

We also had a couple Boxer mixes, but again I remember very little about them. Then a shaggy mixed breed that looked like Benji.

But MY first dog of my own, I got when I was 12 yrs old (after a couple years of begging for a dog of my own), and he was a very large, rough tri-colored collie. Rather ugly but very smart and protective. My grandparents surprised me with him as an early Christmas present. Before I got him a Collie NEVER even crossed my mind as to a breed I would want. It has almost been 17 yrs since I got him. I lost him when he as 13. He was never sick a day in his life, his body just got worn out. But he is the reason I still have and will always have Collies!

I showed him in 4-H for several years. When 4-H started doing agility, I got into that with him and for a couple years also did USDAA agility with him. He loved it!!

Daisy, a Golden Retriever. I got her for my 4th birthday. Of course she ended up being more my dads dog but I loved her so much, we did a lot together.

Second dog was Sadie, our GSD. She was my first baby. Got her when I was 10.

But Jackson is MY first dog solely on my own.

My first dog, our family dog growing up, was a cockapoo named Charlie. I was pretty little when we got him, so I grew up with him but he was mostly my older brother's dog. I was definitely second banana. :D

My first "own" dog as an adult was a retired racing greyhound named Desire. This was back in the 90s adopting retired racers was not yet very common (at least in this area). She was a really fantastic dog, a perfect first dog for me.

First family dog was a GSD/rott?/wolf? mix that my parents got before I was born. Then we had a little rottie mix that I adored as a kid, and a stray GSD. My dad brought random dogs home from work all the time (he worked as a dog trainer in a women's prison). When we moved here we got a poodle mix that died of parvo/corona 2 days later :( And then later on we got a lhasa apso from the shelter that lived to be at least 16 (not sure how old she was when we got her). She just died a couple years ago. She was *my* first dog. She was a bitch, but she was a good little dog and a lot of fun. We also got 2 GSDs during the time we had her, both of which we still have. And then my first dog on my own was Gavroche (boxer/american bulldog?)

Pics of my lhasa and the GSDs coming later :) I don't have any pictures of the other dogs, except for a couple of the gsd/rott/wolf mix, but they're not on the computer.

Blackie was my first dog. :) He was a black Lab.

The second would be a toss up between an Alasken Malamute (she wasn't ours, but was around when we moved in and lived in our yard), Rose's mom (whom we only had for a few months before she passed), and Rose.

Technically, Chloe is my first dog. She is the one I'm financially responsible for.

My first dog (actually dogs) were Collies. My parents had quite a few at the time, but my personal caretakers were Ace and Douglas. :)

Pictures, as promised:

My Lhasa Apso, Ginger (but we all called her Fuzzy). She may have been mixed, I have no idea. She was only about 12 pounds, so pretty small for a Lhasa.

Max, who will be 13 in a month (you see those canines, how clean they are? At 13 all his teeth are STILL that clean and he's never had a dental and has eaten crap kibble all his life. Baffles me):

AJ, who will be 11 in 10 days.
