I was talking to my mom and grandpa tonight and they mentioned that a family friend has a breed of dog my grandpa called a goshweiler. I have never hear of that breed and there is nothing on dogbreedinfo.com either. So I am wondering if any one has any ideas based on the description they gave me. Keep in mind I have never seen this god.

I did ask my mom if it looked like a Giant schnauzer and she said no.

Description:
100+ lbs
black smooth coat
built like a great dane (or maybe a greyhound) It's lanky.
Cropped
Docked
Pointed muzzle
Some sort of guard dog

Any suggestions and pics would be helpful. I am totally at a loss on this one.

I don't think its a beauceron. It's all black no rust marking.

I was thinking an off shoot of a dobe but again the solid black color threw me off.

That's a possibility. It seems like an awfully rare breed for around here (small town Iowa) but you never know.
yeah from your description thats the only breed that I could think of that matched up with everything lol

and the ONLY breeder of these that I can think of is the one in Chicago, that I left the link for...

Chicago is only 6 hrs from here. So that is a definite possibility.

I had never heard of a Canis Panther. Beautiful dogs but the name Canis Panther doesn't sound like Goshweiler? Maybe its a cross of something, Rottweiler and another breed or just a Rott mix, and they created a funny name for it? You know, like a Labradoodle or Puggle?

I honestly think my grandpa just picked a word out of thin air for the name. He couldn't think of it and that sounded good at the time.

My dad seems to think that it was a dobe. Like I said I haven't seen the dog so I can't say for sure.

Thanks to all of you that gave suggestions. I got to learn about a new breed at least.

My in-laws are in a local therapy program with their dog, and the runner/trainer of the program is the lady that breeds those dogs.

I'm VERY VERY VERY VERY skeptical of those people...
They also breed American Bulldogs.
Just something doesn't sound right about these people and dogs...

ETA IN FACT, my father-in-law built one of her bitches a VERY NICE whelping box. AND he built her a nice box to keep one of her dog's ashes in.

Could it be a mistake name or some things about the description that is not correct? Or could it be a disigner breed?

So.....what exactly is that? A black pit/dobe mix?

I am so confused.

Red, I'll hold your puke bucket as long as you hold mine.
