I know of quite a few people in Missouri specifically with Catahoulas, so apparently they aren't too rare in the area. If I were putting his breed down, I'd list him as a Catahoula mix. But, that's just me.

really Catahoula mix? I wouldn't have guessed that. This boy is all brindle... I've never seen an all brindle Catahoula or even Catahoula mix. Any idea if part catahoula on what the other part could be?

There are brindle Catahoulas.
Check the breed standard for Catahoulas, and see how well his features fit. He may even be a purebred. But, if I had to guess another breed, I'd most likely say Labrador.

Lab/Catahoula or Lab/Boxer would be my first guess. I'd have to see the body to really make another guess.

Why does everyone think brindled dogs are Catahoula mixes? I thought all catahoulas were merled. I don't even think they come in brindle!

Yes they come in brindle, they aren't that common but it does happen...

ETA: I looked at the pic again, he also could be a Cur mix

Merle is more common, but they do come in brindle. And I agree on a plott/lab or catahoula/lab mix. Something about the face says "lab" to me.

I think if he were all black my first guess would be lab. Not only is he a pretty boy but he is also a good boy. The brindle throws me off. He does not have any white on him at all, brindle thoughout.

He has a full tail and he is pretty tall. I will try and get a body shot. Everytime I go over to his pen he sits.

so far we have Plott/lab, Catahoula mix, moutain cur mix, pittie mix ( I really dont see any of that though).

I could always call him a labotthoulacur. My own designer breed!!!::yikes:

I would say a Cur which is bascially a mix anyways.

I would venture to lean more towards a Mountain Cur than a Catahoula Cur.

And nothing about that dog resembles any of the 'pit bull' breeds.

I still think he looks like a lab/plott mix. Many coonhound people object to almost all-black plotts, claiming tnhey look like labs. They refer to these dogs as plabs, or my favorite, Plabbotts. Hows that for a name?
