I'm also afraid of coyote attacks. That is how my last dog died in Decemeber. We lived in a suburb too! I don't even know how she got out of the house but it was awful. All her insides were outside. She lived threw the surgery to put all her organs back in but she was put to sleep 15 hours later because her lungs were filling up with blood and the vet said it was the only option we really had left.
I see Coyotes all the time where I live (City of Milwaukee :yikes: ) Where I walk my dogs we found a spot where it appears two coyotes tore apart and ate a red fox :(

My biggest fear is the future. And with that I mean how Duke will handle it. Im only 22 right now and Duke just turned a year so I plan on having him for a long time to come still. I plan to move in with my boyfriend by the end of the year and he as well has a dog. My fear is they wont get along. They have played outside and were fine but in the house the one time it didnt go so well. The other part is if I ever have kids. Duke is horrible with them and I fear I wont be able to work him out of this and hes going to bite or worse to a child if I ever have some.

ToscasMom, I feel the exact same way with my neighbor's Rottweilers. I have a large yard with fencing that would rival a maximum security prison, however that's only about 1/4 of our property. We have another 3-4 acres that I could let my dogs run on (Dakota and Eve don't run off) but I honestly can't do that because I'm terrified of those Rottweilers showing up and hurting my dogs.

Dakota already gets out of control when they show up; he senses my anxiety and fear and *knows* they are a threat from previous experience. I hate admitting that I don't have 100% control over my dog, but when I am attacked or threatened, he has a mind of his own and I can't call him off. He'd fight those dogs until he was killed.

Like Zoom, I'm also worried about having a roommate that is unkind to my dogs.

my greatest fear is that Vic will get hit by a car.or be stolen.he darts so fast that i have had to be super careful. If someone (and everybody has a relative that hunts) were to take him and put him in a kennel i think that would be the end of his sanity. No one there to tuck him in his blankets at night. ANd that Mary will get cancer. Her old woman cough worries me so.

Love That, try doing fire drills with everyone, including the pets. I have been doing them with my cats for years. Of course, Tosca pitches right in now. It's easy to teach them. Just use the same call line every time and give them Primo treats. I think your fear is more common than you know. My parents' had a fire a number of years ago and I remember the horror. Till the day he died, one of their cats would howl if the smoke alarm went off or the oven smoked a bit during broiling.
That's a great idea. My smoke alarm has gone off (I was cooking dinner) a few times since I've had Bailey and Chloe (RB dog Timmie would go to the door by himself trying to go somewhere the noise wasn't so intense). But I will try to implement a fire drill in our house now. Thanks. :)

Also I feel the same about DA dogs when I'm on a walk. I live in a nice neighborhood and there are others that bring their dogs here to walk them not from our neighborhood. When Bailey was about 7 months old (and weighing around 65lbs at that time, before we got Chloe) a neighbors DA dogs were out of their fence and here we come walkin' down the street minding our own business. I tried not to pay attention but Bailey, being the big friendly fellow that he is wanted to play.........at first....one of the neighbor's dogs circled around, got behind us and one in the front, both growling and snarling right off the bat! (I didn't have my MACE) At this time Bailey began to go up on his back legs like a horse, we're in the middle of the street, broad daylight and I'm yelling NO to the dogs in my most authoritative sounding voice that I can muster.......did nothing........the neighbor heard the ruckus and came out and called them and I didn't think they were going to go but they finally did. I was SO mad that I didn't say a word, it's hard to tell WHAT I would have said if I had. The next time I saw her out (I was driving by) I caught her eye and said, "I'll Mace them the next time". These dogs were showing every tooth in their heads. So yes, that is up there a close 2nd to fire I have to say.

My biggest fear is that when we get our dog things wont work out for one reason or another. Maybe we will make a huge error in judgement while adopting the dog, or maybe we will fail him or her. Not being a good mommy to my dog is my worst fear.

Then my slightly more realistic fears: running off, the dogs in the neighborhood not liking him/her, wild animal problems (we have all kinds of poisonous snakes, though they are not common, bears, foxes, coyotes, badgers, skunks), not getting along with my kittehs, and not liking me. =(

My fears are mainly temperament issues. I had to euthanize my heart dog because he developed severe fear aggression. It wasn't his fault, it was the result of his breeding. But ever since then, I've been absolutely paranoid about the slightest little indication of aggression. I used to have sleepness nights if Zeus so much as growled when we were playing tug. I know it's paranoia, but I just don't ever want to go through that again.

My other fear, since we got Voodoo, is BSL. There have been several major pit bull attacks in our area over the last few years, and I'm afraid the city might start considering BSL. And Voodoo is always mistaken for a pit bull.
