dark - no the dark can't hurt you but the things in it can. especially if you are a woman.
That's really the only thing about it - you don't know who the heck, or what the heck, is out there. But if someone did every try to attack me (and I am female), in the dark or in the daylight, believe me they'd be sorry they did. Just because I am female doesn't mean I don't have any strength and can't or won't protect myself.

I'm really not afraid of many things like bugs or clowns or heights.. I do get freaked on occasion, in total darkness, because I will imagine things that aren't there. (Don't ask. LOL. I have a very vivid imagination.)

The main thing I'm afraid of is death. Not so much my own death, but that of the people I love. It's just one of the scariest things to me, to know that they would no longer be there.. I'd almost rather be dead myself, than have to live without them.

I'm also terrified of the thought of something bad happening to my dogs.. I'd go to any extent to protect my babies.

I'm afraid of hights (I just freeze up when I get so high. I'm fine climbing a ladder or whatever, and when I was up in the mountians on vacation, if I didn't think about how high I was I was fine. But when I went up a rock climbing wall at camp...I got about halfway up (or a little more than halfway) and my legs just froze up and I couldn't move. So I just went down.
I'm also afraid of the dentist (ok, maybe not so much afraid, but I HATE going there...maybe squemish is a better word.)
Real life clowns don't freak me out, but clown statues or whatever do...those just scare me.
I'm also scared of old dolls. Ever since I watched Chuckie....*shudder*.

The dark doesn't freak me out unless I'm in one of my "OMG, what was that noise?" moods.

And then off of movies, I'm scared of Zombies. Those creep me out. I know they aren't real, but they still scare me.

Darkness cant hurt you and small places cant hurt you if the air quality is ok.
It's actually not about the air. When I am enclosed in a small space, I just keep feeling the constant urge of wanting to move freely in fresh air, and when I can't and when I know I'm trapped, I start going crazy. :p
