We have no friends with young children so I have never been really able to socialize Maya with them as well as would like. She has always been very well behaved with them however, in the rare cases where she has interacted with them. I am very careful to watch her reaction and I put myself down on hers and the childs level just in case. Well today Chris' cousin was in town and came over with her 2 month old baby. I kept Maya on a leash because she jumps all over people (we're working on that). I was on the floor with her and Chris' mom sat down on the couch next to me with the baby. I tried not to let Maya see how nervous I was so she would not associate that with Hayden, but at the same time kept a close grip on her collar. She sniffed him and kissed his feet! I was so relieved. She got lots of treats today, so she would think of baby as a good thing. Chris and I hope to have kids on day, and while I know one interaction is not enough to know how good she will be, it puts me slightly more at ease. I just wish his cousin lived closer so we could spend more time with her and get Maya better socialized in the process!
