We took Rory to the lake this afternoon and he had a blast. Pictures are courtesy of Ian :D

Rory seriously loves the water... we were walking the trails and before we even made it out, he was in the lake!

Yup that's it. It's affordable for a telephoto and surprisingly pretty sharp wide open. Not to mention with VR I can get a decent shot of something still at 200mm at an exposure time of 1/30.

It's slow at f/4.0-5.6 max aperture, but for the price it does well in available light.

Now, the 70-200 2.8 VRII, that I would love! ... If I win the lottery :lol-sign:

You and me both...that's my biggest complaint about my Quantaray 18-200mm...it's sloooooow...my Tamron 75-300 was much faster, but it also had a shorter focal length, so meh. It's a trade off and I can always slap that one back on if I really feel the need for it.

Those are great pics!

Thank you!

Are you talking about focus speed? Because the focus speed is actually pretty decent with the 55-200 (at least as far as I've noticed so far).

I was talking "slow" as it pertains to the maximum aperture of a lens. IE a lens with f/2.8 max aperture is much faster than one with a f/4-5.6. The aperture can be opened up further, allowing for higher shutter speeds with the same amount of available light.
