I am totally clueless. Unless that is where the undercoat is showing and the top coat has fallen out, or a infestation caused sores that healed and the hair grew in differently, or you just have a strange but beautiful spotty dog. Sorries to be no help!

yes they were!
In that case, I am going to ask why in the first three pics, the dog is wearing a different collar than the last three.
I also thought that in the first three pics, the fur does not look at all like a boxers. I suspect you are trying to pull a fast one. What do I win if I am right?

He could have had a staph infection and that is new hair growth. Staph can cause circular areas of flakiness and hair loss. If that's the case and you're seeing new growth, he may have had one and gotten better on his own. It's good that you're going to the vet anyway. Let us know what you find out!

Apparently the OP wasn't bothered too much so why do you feel the need to comment?
Maybe you haven't noticed but occasionally people do come in here and make crap up just to get people going. I just asked a simple question thinking he/she was playing a little joke.
Apparently from my 600+ posts, if I was that big of a PITA, I would be banished by now.
YOUR comment was uncalled for.
