We don't know what Hugo is, but more than one person has asked if he's a miniature german shepherd. Also, Husy and Basenji, lol.

The circus was in town once, and I had someone ask me if Roxie was a tiger.

But otherwise, people think that she's just a baby pit bull who will grow to be 90 lbs.

She's a 6 year old Whippet/Boxer mix who weighs 40lbs.

I hope Laurelin shows up in this thread because she has the best story by far. :lol-sign:

The only weird guess I've ever gotten, surprisingly, is someone who asked if Rowan was a Miniature Australian Shepherd. Normally if people guess wrong, they guess Springer, which isn't a weird guess at all. If you don't know dogs, they look pretty similar.

I suspect I'll get some strange guesses with Firenze, though. We just haven't had any yet.

I've heard A LOT of bizarre breed guesses. People just generally don't have much knowledge of breeds so they make really really blanket assumptions. I had a friend once say "oh look at that Rottweiler over there" while pointing to a 30ish lb brindle dog. I'm pretty sure a few people called my standard sized Eskimo a chihuahua. Mostly people called him a Samoyed. He weighed 30 lbs. my boyfriend can't freakin' tell apart a pug and a French bulldog half the time (especially not in a drawing or something) and it drives me insane. My mom, who owns a wheaten terrier, thinks every beige-tan-wheat colored labradoodle she sees is a wheaten.

I had someone bring to daycare what I can only possibly imagine being a border collie MAYBE mixed with something similar who were convinced she was a "mini goldendoodle". Also like 25 people around here bring their haveneses to get groomed and they are almost 100% all or mostly poodle, so I'm assuming a local BYB is charging an arm and leg for inbred poodle puppies on the grounds that it's a rare breed.

Speaking of inability to correctly identify breeds... May I introduce you all to my last dog, Buddy? She was a Rottweiler.

I legitly had people run away from her.

Even at 9 years old, they thought she was a Rottie puppy.

Abrams, 50% of the time, is a Labradoodle.

40% of the time he is a Labrador.

10% of the time he's a Chessie.

Not dog related by at least 20 people have called my bearded Dragons iguanas. Surprisingly no one called them geckos.

In my area someone let their pet iguana in their yard during the summer and a few people called the cops to report someone keeping a pet alligator.

Nothing. May be interesting when people start asking more about Little Foot. Though, we don't too often go places with too many people near and around. Chomper so far has only got Border Collie when he was younger, nothing out there. ;)

You all will get a kick out of this one- when I was a kid, one of our goats got into the horse field, and my Dad's QH trampled him. My mother and a friend took the goat to the vet. The vet had 2 waiting rooms- one for dogs, one for cats. Mom and her friend were sitting on the dog side with a tri-colored Nubian goat (complete with good sized horns) with his hind end in a garbage bag. Yep- someone asked them what kind of dog he was.

Sam has gotten all sorts of weird ones. A lot of people don't buy that he's just a plain old mutt and insist he is some sort of exotic dog breed. one lady insisted he was a chi mixed with GSD. One lady said alpino which to my knowledge isn't a thing. He's also gotten papillon and schipperke which I guess isn't that far out there.

Most people think Wilson is an aussie because he holds his tail low and "border collies don't come in that color". There was a guy who guessed english shepherd, but he had two english shepherds with him that looked just like him. He looked really disappointed when I said he was a border collie.

Haha! On the flip side, I had a student with two ~5 month old Great Danes with their ears in posts, and they had someone ask them about their goats.

Izzie has been called a pit bull puppy before. More than once.

I just don't know.

A lot of people don't guess pug, or if they do it's "pug and...". No, just pug.

Meg gets greyhound a lot, which is bizarre to me. I think people must just believe that brindle = greyhound.

Gusto doesn't get much for weird guesses. Boston Terrier, BorderJack, BorderStaff. And a lot of "Is he a....what is he?"
