Voodoo has really muscled out and put on bulk in the last 4-5 months, so I think he's ready to start weight pulling. As much as this little dog loves to throw his weight around, I think he'll enjoy it.

Where can I find a decent weight pull harness for him? I did a search, but most of the sites I found look rather....hokey. All are featuring big pictures of American flags and poorly-bred pit bulls. I don't want to inadvertantly add to the income of a BYB, so I'd prefer a more professional dealer.

Any good places?

Oooh...another thought. I'm pretty capable of using a sewing machine, and those harnesses look fairly simple to make. Is making my own a possibility?

First site right off the top of my head that has them is
http://www.blackicedogsledding.com/page5.html I've bought some things from them, very nice, sturdy stuff. I know there is other equipment suppliers out there, but this is the only one that comes to mind.
As for sewing them, you need a heavy duty machine. My mom tried reparing a few of my harnesses that needed it, and I just got fed up with it and I did it by hand.

EDIT: Heres another place:http://www.nordkyn.com/. And again, I've bought some things from them, and they too have nice products.

Gempress once thing to keep in mind is that those who breed for weight pulling (as in, the ideal weight pulling dog is their goal) sometimes choose to go with the big pits. Often they slap the name ""American Pit Bull terrier"" on them but often they are APBT/Neo or APBT/Dogue de Bordeaux and other such mixes AKA BANDOGGES!!! I wish they would come out and cal them what they are, not claim that they are a purebred APBT. Thankfully within the last few years some have started calling them American Pull Dogs or something along those lines and have admitted they are not APBTs.

Just thought I''d throw that in there before you get the wrong impression of what might be a decent breeder ;) It''s very exciting that you have chosen a job for Voodoo!!! Good luck with it and we want PICTURES hehehe Let me know if you have any questions or need help with something.

As for where to get a good harness, check out these various suppliers for one http://www.sleddogcentral.com/equip&supplies.htm

Thanks for all the links, all! I'm really excited. I haven't done weight pull in years, and I've missed it. I think the little demon would love it too.

Hey. I'm late on this, but I really recommend CDPits for harnesses. I've gotten two from her, and the workmanship is top-notch. You'll end up paying the same that a place would charge you for a generic-sized harness, but you'll get custom-fit, and any kinds of colors you want.

Edit: Here's pics of Loki in her CDPits harness:

I should mention that I've also bought harnesses from Ikon Outfitters, who does the generic-sized stuff. Not really happy with the quality, although they were decent for training. The spreader bar on Loki's IO harness was so narrow that it caused the side straps to rub the hair off her thighs.

Here's a pic of her Ikon Outfitters harness, for comparison. FWIW, I paid roughly the same for both. There really is no comparison, IMO.
