I just have to say what a great community we have here at Chaz. Only fellow dog lovers would understand the impact of losing a long time family member like this. You guys are my therapists, lol. Few of my close friends are dog owners so they can't relate at the same level as you can.

thanks to everyone for the kind words, it really means a lot to me and my family. We're off to the vet shortly, to make our girl's final arrangements.

That is so true Barb. About a year ago, I lost my Lab of almost 14 years and what really, really helped were those memories....just burying myself in remembering all the trail rides she went on with my horses and me, remembering how she loved swimming in the river and the little lake by our house with the kids when they were small, how she loved feasting on horsey road apples, LOL....all the cute, funny little things she did. Just focusing on that, looking at old pictures really has kept her close to my heart even though physically she isn't here. It will get easier Dan.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Even though she is at peace doesn't make it any easier but remember, one day you will see her again.

i'm so, so sorry. midnite was a beautiful dog, and i really know how painful it is, i lost my sixteen year old eskie a few months ago. he was playing one day and the next, had a normal "chill" day, and then went to sleep that night and didn't wake up. it was so hard. but time eases the pain, and you need to mourn her for a little while, before moving on. for me what really helped was sharing memories of my Cody with friends, making picture collages, and writing short memoirs about our time together. i think trying to forget it is the worst way to cope, and acknowledging what a wonderful part of your life Midnite was will help ease the pain. good luck coping with this tragedy, and best wishes.
