My chihuahua tries to catch wasps and she loves munching on fallen apples in the yard which wasps seem to gather around. I myself was stung by a wasp several days ago while picking up apples. I didn't realize how much pain a wasp sting causes and now I'm worried my dog might get stung one of these days, so my question is, how would you go about treating a dog that's been stung? Especially if it's somewhere like the nose or mouth.

I really don't know. Dennis was hopping through the grass and I noticed it was a wasp he was chasing too. I got him to stop before anything happened. I have no idea how bad it would be if one got him though.

Please try to keep your dog away from wasps. If a dog is stung near its mouth or in its throat, it may swell and restrict breathing. Some dogs may also be allergic to wasp or bee stings.
Wasp stings are alkali and the sting is not left in the skin. Bathe the area in vinegar, as the sting is alkaline.
Bee stings are acid. Remove the sting and bathe the area in bicarbonate of soda.

My one female, Athena, got stung on her face a few months back. Her whole head almost instantly ballooned, and she was having trouble breathing. We called the vet right away, and luckily we had some Benedryll on hand, as it's a half hour drive to the vet, and according to her, she needed it immediately. The next day all was well, and you'd think she'd have learned her lesson, but I still keep catching her chasing bee's and wasps, so we just make sure we always have the benedryl on hand.

Please everyone check with your vet now and see what dose of benadryl should be given ... this is #1 before treating the sting .
