There's evidently a (very) severe bug in the Snow Leopard architecture that wipes out all your data.

Updated: Major bug in Snow Leopard deletes all user data

Evidently it's as simple as logging into the guest account, then logging out of that and back into your main account and then *poof*.

The problem, can easily be reproduced when a user logs into the 'guest' account, either on purpose or by accident, and when they log back out of the account and back into their normal one, they find that their account has been fully reset with all data wiped and lost - the account is like a brand new one. The home directory still exists under "/Users/username" but is completely empty.
So 'ware the guest!

This just happened to one of our teachers at work. She let a student log on to her computer and when she logged back on to her account - poof it was gone! Luckily, when she logged out and then logged back on again, it was all restored. Our computer dude says it happens, but usually you just have to log out and then log back on again and you're good to go.
