Want to move...Can't find "pet friendly" places

With our tax refund and Tony's GI Bill we are going to move out on our own. The problem is that we can't find any places that accept pets. Houses and mobile homes (for rent) are few and far between and apartments don't accept big dogs.
There is a commercial building for rent that is currently being used as a residence. It is close to the college and not to far from our jobs. We just don't know if they will allow pets or not. There is another place in Bismark, MO that will let us keep them in the garage (which is right outside the back door).
I'd rather stay away from the whole apartment scene if at all possible. Most apts. around here don't accept pets as big as ours anyways. So.....we can afford to move, but need to find somewhere to move to!

Any ideas are much appreciated! Email [email protected] if you don't get a response from me on here within a day or two. I check my email at least 2-3 times a week, but don't get much time to devote to chaz right now.

They are there, you just need to find them and be willing to put down a good sized deposit for having well trained, housebroken dogs. :)

Good luck.

It's incredibly hard and I feel for you.. I had problems finding a place to accept my 6 lb dog and I was willing to put down a big deposit too.

Persistence really pays off here, I'd call every ad whether it says no pets or not and explain your situation. If you have any training certificates, ect people also might be more lenient and willing to give your dogs a shot.

I was so bitter with my area and no one accepting pets (even in slummy apartments!!), but my two puppies did chew some wood work *which I replaced*... and I was home with them all day. So I can understand why the landlords aren't willing to take the risk sometimes.

Just keep trying!! You will find something eventually :) Good luck!

Is there anyway you can bide your time a bit longer and save a little more so you can put a down payment on something? For what you will be spending in rent you should be able to find something, even a trailer, that you can buy. Then you wouldn't have to worry about landlords and pet policies.

You might want to check with the Humane Society, or shelters in your area, ours has a listing of apartments that allow dogs. Good luck!

I had to find housing with not only a DOBERMAN, but cats and rats too, and while it took awhile to find something, I definitely was able to choose what I wanted and had my pick of places.

My dog came with a resume that had his training, his skills, his titles, his classes, his health certs. I always brought him to every place I looked at, and every single landlord was impressed with how calm and obedient he was, and I even had two realtors that said they would love to work with me again in locating a place because I was such a responsible owner - I turned down her house for rent because there were white carpets in the LR and I told her honestly I could never keep them clean with the dog coming inside from the backyard. I was always willing to leave pet deposits and offered calls to his trainers etc to vouch for him. My landlords also understood that no matter how nice and sweet he was while I was there, under no circumstances was the landlord to EVER come in the house without me present or my dog would bite them.

It may take awhlie, but there are places out there. If I could find places to rent to me with a 100 lb doberman, others can too :) It takes patience and a lot of phone calls and driving, but its possible.
