What about a rescue outside your area? Finding a foster home open without any dogs is pretty difficult so you might have a greater chance if you look into rescues maybe in the states around you. there are some great people out there who will transport if you need it. Dogster is great about it and if at all possible I know people from here would help you.

I am so sorry about what you are going through. I ahve two dogs who will fight to the death but thank god how my house is set up they are kept apart fairly easilly. They got together the first time in years a couple weeks ago and I thought it was going to end a lot worse than it did. Dog fights are scary things.
Dogster is not the place to search for rescues. The owner of the website knows nothing about rescuing, and he is nothing short of a twit.
But that isn't what this is about...

Gemp, I haven't got any word back yet. :(

Anyone else?

Do you mind if I post around on another dog forum? There's another large one I'm on that has quite a few people from the DFW area on it and some having working dogs. They might be able to help.

I don't mind at all, Laurelin!

At least Voodoo has some time right now. That should give me a chance to find him a good home.. I also put an ad in the paper on him. Hopefully I'll get a response.

Gem.......so sorry to hear about this situation!!!:( My heart goes out to you, Zues & Voodoo!!!!! I also will back you 100% and respect any decision you make......you're such a wonderful person, and I know that you only want whats best for all. It sounds to me like Voodoo needs to be in a home where he is the only dog. You will be in my thoughts and I will pray for the perfect person & situation to present itself so that it will work out best for all. (((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))))

Do you have a pic of Voodoo I could post as well? Sometimes that helps people get ideas on what to do and what kinds of breed specific rescues you can try.

aww ::HUGS:: that is so scary :( Like everyone else, I am 100% behind your decision...we all know how much you love your dogs, and that you would do anything to protect them.

I am very sorry this happened to you Gempress. A similar thing happened to me once when I adopted a female from the pound (this was before Benji). We think she was a Malinios mix, and Mals are VERY drivey, which she was. She attacked Daisy, causing Daisy to to need a bunch of stitches in her ear. We had to bring her back to the pound and she ended up in rescue, where she still is. The difference was, though, that Minnie (what we named the Mal mix) was consumed with hatred for Daisy after that attack and wanted to get her if she saw her. Daisy was terrified.

You describe your dogs as being happy to see each other. Maybe a behaviorist could help? Because it is VERY hard to find somebody who wants to adopt a DA dog. We have DA dogs at our rescue that have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING wrong with them except that they need a home without other animals. They are sweet, loveable dogs that have been with us for over a YEAR. Getting Voodoo a home in a few days would be nothing short of miracle. Although, Chaz HAS pulled some off before.

I just wish you luck!

How horribly sad and tough for you. I am sorry you are going through this. Sometimes re-homing a dog is the best decision for everyone involved. I know you loved both the boys very much, so this must be incredibly hard on you.

Sometimes when dogs hit mental maturity around 2-3 years, things can change and they may suddenly stop tolerating a dog that they once got along with. I have been through it, and it's not fun.

Once again, I am terribly sorry and I hope Zeus is better soon and Voodoo finds another loving home. :(

I just saw this thread now, Gem, could you please send me a front, back, and side shots of Voodoo? I can post about him on the other forums I am a member of (most are working dog forums!) and see if any ranchers or hunters are interested...Is Voodoo intact or neutered?

I just saw this, and am so sorry for what has happened. You are clearly doing the right thing by trying to make sure both boys are in a situation where they can be safe and happy. I'm a bit overwhelmed by horse vet bills right now, but could find a bit to donate towards transportation costs if you do find VooDoo a good situation.

Good luck with all of this; my thoughts are with you, your husband, and both dogs.

I'm so sorry that you have to make this decision, it has to be so incredibly hard for you. I can't donate any funds at this time, but I'm sending positive vibes your way for Voodoo and hoping that he finds a very happy home somewhere as an only dog.

I'm also looking around for rescues and I'll let you know if I see anything promising! <3
