I learned one of those "life lessons" lesson today.
When wearing a Halloween costume with a full mask---such as Ghost Rider, for example---do not go happily skipping into the living room where a guardian Chaos Demon is napping.
I didn't even think about it until I came out of the bedroom to show the costume to my husband. Voodoo rocketed off from the rug and charged right at me, snarling and roaring for all he was worth. Scared the s**t out of me. Hubby was screaming at Voodoo to stop and trying to grab at him, while I was backpedaling.
Just when I thought I was going to get bitten, Voodoo decided to listen to Hubby and stopped. Normally Voodoo relaxes when he's told "it's okay", but he I guess he really hates Ghost Rider. He kept bristling and snarling, and showing all his teeth. I fortunately decided not to move. Hubby grabbed Vood's collar and told me to take the mask off. As soon as Voodoo saw me, my dog was happy again.
But God, that was frightening. I thought I was going to get attacked by my own dog. It didn't occur to me that Voodoo has never seen a full mask before, and would not recognize me with a mask on.
So yeah. I think Voodoo has a lot of desensitizing to do about Halloween costumes. I think I'll keep a lead on him on Friday, just in case friends and family unexpectedly drop by in costume.
*sigh* He does keep life interesting, I guess.
