My girlfriend frequently brings my dogs treats. Well, the last time she got them some, she got the VitaKraft yogurt drops. They are the choco ones and the ingredients actually has cocoa as an ingredient.

I've always known that chocolate is poison to a dog, but would a small amount of cocoa in them cause any problems? Or is there a different ingredient in chocolate that causes the problems?

In general they're not the greatest treats... In the vanilla ones, the first ingredient is SUGAR which is a big red flag to me.

If in the choco ones, if it's actually cocoa, I'd not feed them. But if it's carob, carob is safe.

Yeah, I'm gonna send them an e-mail about it........sure it won't do any good, but it needs to be brought to their attention.

Years ago I lost a dog to chocolate when he ate a LARGE solid chocolate easter egg. I find the fact that a company would put cocoa into a treat is absolutely unconscienable. They will tell you that a very small amount is not toxic and that is probably true. But what IF the dog was able to sneak access to that bag of treats and eat the whole bag?

I think the toxicity of chocolate in dogs depends on the dog, maybe even the breed......

I had a black lab when I was a kid and he got hold of a hershey bar. Ate about half of it before anyone noticed he had it......a little while later he had a seizure. Luckily that was all that happened, he was fine after that...

My sister's dog oonce ate a whole bag of those little reeses's cups and nothing at all happened to her.....she got the bag off of their counter when they weren't home....

When I was a kid we had a smallish ( 20 pound) mix dog and he got into a whole bag of hershey kisses. I thought he would have at least got sick, but nothing happened. Poop and everything was normal.

Still wouldn't want to chance it again though
