Today we had raku firing for members only. THere were about a dozen or so people doing a complicated process of firing pottery. Victor had a short leash but i didn't have to hold it so he was the same as off leash, we are outside, lots of activity and he was just as good as gold. He held so still in the streets as cars went by, he heeled off leash everywhere i went. He visited with one person after another (and got probably about 2 sandwiches, i saw more then one person slip him a bite but it was ok, nothing he couldn't have. I stopped counting the number of times i heard people say "your such a good boy" "Your such a good dog" and my heart just did a little happy dance. They called him cute and sweetie but each person i over heard used the word "good" and that is quite the compliment. He is maturing into the dog of my dreams. I am just so grateful and happy and proud. I could not have trusted Mary in the way i could him today. HORRRRAY! WHat a GOOD BOY! Those are i think his most favorite words of all.

the having to teach him up onto a chair (ct's suggestion) to get him to understand down..all he wanted to do was climb up to your face and hold on for dear life, or run around like a complete lunatic! No more black eyes either tho i do kinda miss his jumping on the bed. He still does that once in a while but not like he did back then;) I surely never expected him to turn out like this:D having to border train him because i couldn't afford a fence was one motivator for me. And the pets for life test the other. I don't know if i would have worked as hard as we did if i didn't have to in the first place..You just can't take a high energy dog like that and put him on a line, it would never ever be enough.

NobleRuby i couldn't get it through Victor's head that he was to stay down. He was so post stress as a rescue that he took being pushed down as rejection and would be all the more determined to adhere to me. I was at my wits end and that was when CT (creature teacher) suggested i get a platform of somekind and teach him up and then down. It did the trick! He just didn't understand what i meant. I think so much of training is just that, if the dog understands what you want he would gladly comply, i just wasn't being "clear" about what i wanted.
