She's started slowing down a lot recently and then just went off her food completely. She's always been picky so I made her home cooked chicken soup-wouldn't touch it. We're at the vet, he felt a mass in her abdomen and she's getting an x-ray as I type this. Oh my old lady. :(

So the mass was poop. The question is did she get backed up bc she lost her appetite or did she stop because she got backed up? He did a full blood panel to see what else is going on.

I know I relate everything back to healthcare in humans but hey that's what I know. So besides treating whatever shows up in her blood I think I am also going to add miralax to her diet. She's slowed down tremendously in general so she's at a greater risk for constipation just because of that alone. I don't want a repeat of this and adding a little powder to her food is an easy enough preventative and it's very gentle.

Never thought I'd say this one - I'm glad it's poop LOL. Hopefully nothing shows up on the blood work and she's right as rain.

You can also try maybe a scoop of pumpkin to her food every day if she likes it!

Thank You everyone! :) We're home now. She has Meds to help with nausea and to help pass what's in there. I'll find out tomorrow if anything shows up in the bloodwork.

Beanie, pumpkin does add bulk so that make be another option to help her form stool and pass it through. I do really like miralax though, it doesn't form stool bulk, it keeps the stool soft. A lot of times constipation is caused(or made worse) by dry stool as the drier it is, the harder to pass.

I'm glad the mass was poop, and hopefully the bloodwork comes back good as well. I know when Zoe got constipated after her TPLO surgery, she had really nasty anal gland smellies when she finally got it all out. If that is the norm, I hope the wind is in your favor. :p

Yeah, poop is def better than a tumor! But I'd really like to know what caused it, so that I can (hopefully) avoid this situation with her again.

The bloodwork should be in today, so I should find out more later. She had a large bowel movement yesterday afternoon(I'm restricting her to leash only outside so I can keep tabs until she's better). She's eating about 15-20 min after taking her anti-emetics but won't even look at food before, so something is still making her Nauseaus.

Oh no. Crossing my fingers that it isn't kidney damage. I'm glad it was poop(I'll probably never say that again).

Sending tons of vibes.

Thank you everyone. I was at work when he called, so I'm bringing her urine in in the morning. So I should know more tomorrow hopefully.

Springer, her exact age is unknown but she is ~13/14.

So the results are in: Bloodwork & U/A confirm diabetes. She is anemic also, but he didn't say if she was spilling any in her urine (I missed the call this is from a vm but this along with other signs lead him to suspect possible kidney damage). I'll have to find out more about that.

Monday she goes in for the day to have her insulin dosage worked out and then they will show me how to inject her.

Sorry to hear that, and vibes! I don't know anything really about anemia, but I know a lot of dogs and cats with diabetes and insulin injections become very routine and they live happy, normal lives still. So hang in there and don't let it get you down!
