Ok, he is now 22 weeks and I am really getting frustrated here. He wont eat dry, he wont eat canned wet, he wont eat homecooked and he wont eat raw. What must I do then?

He has refused all foods the past two days, he is merely sustaining himself on Nutrical. He is not limp or looking sick. He just wont eat, no matter what I offer him. He got a new york strip steak yesterday and he turned up his nose, it was raw he refused it, so I pan cooked it lightly, he refused it. He wont touch his meat porridge, he wont eat canned or dry. I think he is WAY too old for me to resume force feeding. How long can a five month old puppy live on nothing but water? They need nutrients to sustain their growth:mad:

Oh, by the way, I do the put down, leave 15 and take up, offer a few hours again, same thing. He will eat snacks but he will get nothing at all, until he begins to eat a meal. I mean what dog refuses beef, pork, lamb, turkey, chicken, fish, he wont eat anythign I offer him, he even stopped eating the tripe cuz I have been adding baby carrots mashed in it. So he gets NO nutrients whatsoever from his eating. Vet said there is nothign wrong with him. Can this be psychological?

What should I do? Just keep offering somethig until he accepts it? It is so frustrating
Any ideas?

Victor wouldn't eat either and we had the horrible expense of nutrical while we tried to find solutions. He still isn't too great about it, if i can get him to take the first bite, and maybe the second, he will go ahead and finish the bowl. I wish i had some advices, but it sounds like you are trying all the channels. I have found that after hard exercise Vic's apptite would be improved, after swimming he was ravenous. My dog got better as he got older, but food has never really been his cup a tea.
Teeth are ok?

I know it's frustrating, but really, most of the Poms I've met have been incredibly sporadic and picky eaters...like one bite of kibble one hour, go a few more, take another...

I think you may have to try just letting him free-feed off of a high quality kibble with some Nutrical drizzled on top, maybe even diluted with some water so it mixes in easier and just let him eat what he will when he will. I'm not a fan of free-feeding, but some dogs just won't have it any other way. Just make sure you're monitoring his intake still and putting down fresh food at least once a day.

Yes, his teeth are ok, his adult cainines have not started to come out yet. His molers are there and I have noticed a few front baby milk teeth gone not a lot maybe two total. He will eat all the SNACKS and goodies I give, but not food. So since I am not big on snacking, he only gets a training treat PROVIDING he eats his meal. If he has not eaten his meal, no treats whatsoever. I wonder why some dogs do this to themselves? If he refuses all means of food, what am I to do? puree and syringe him? He will have terrible jaws and teeth as he grows if he does not eat his normal food. I had a good spree of green tripe there for a couple of weeks, now I started to add baby carrots it stopped it. So since he wont eat veges I may have to revert to syringe feeding him, this is terribly frustrating and sometimes, I really get mad. Oh he used to eat cottage cheese, eggs, stopped that even.

How long did you nutrical him? This one sustains himself the past few days on that. For two weeks I was not feeding him. He is supposed to be at three meals a day now, he wont even have one:mad:

Thanks for the tip, done tried that in the early stages, he wont touch kibble if there is anything remotely on it, and he wont nutrical unless I syringe it to him. Kibble wet, are you kidding me, he will bolt like a horse. I wonder if this is some genetic disorder in the breed?

When he was younger I had to puree stuff and meat and veges and syringe him or he will starve. I amwondering if to revert to this method? It is hard, what if he has to go to a kennel or friends house if I am sick or away?

I personally think Poms are just bred to be nuts on some level or another. ;)

Trying running him ragged and see what happens?

What do you mean run him ragged? I also believe that while they are just simply adorable, they are a pain in the ass to say it nicely:lol-sign:

Just make him run and play until he's visibly tired, let him nap, then do it again and then after that second nap, offer him his food and see what happens.

Ok, I will do this, but I have also done this in the past. Surely if he has not eaten since yesterday morning and he ran hard last evening, he should surely eat what ever I give him not so? The food he was being offered is a meat porridge with the following
rice
barley
carrots
beef
pork
turkey
chicken
liver
kidney

Now aht dog turns his nose at that if they are hungry

Have you talked to your vet? It is said that free feeding causes picky eaters sometimes. Personally, I'd offer the food to your dog 3 or 4 times a day for 15 minutes and then put it away. A dog isn't likely to let itself starve. It your dog truly isn't eating after days, he needs to be seen by a vet IMO.

Your stressing (understandably) is probably making your dog anxious too. They are incredible how they pick up our moods. Stress can cause all kinds of things. Force feeding him may make him even more stressed and develop more of an aversion to food. I'd ask your vet.

How much food are you giving him at a time? Does he take any bites ever?

I personally think that you are the cause of your dog being such a picky eater. You're offering him SO many different things, and allowing him to chose what he wants or doesn't want.

Give him one thing- if he doesn't eat it, tough luck. Stop giving him so many options. He'll eat eventually.

In previous posts I declared where he has been seen by the vet and vet said there is nothing medically wrong with him. He is offered on mornings about 40 to 50 gm of food, home cooked that is. Nights about 65 to 75gm, during the day he does not eat, so I try to make what ever training treats a meal in diguise with protein, fat, carbs veges but only about 20gm if that much. I weigh my dog's food before and aftet to see what he has eaten, I chart and have been charting him from the moment he arrived in my house, from his peeing pooping and eating habits. I have been offering the 15 min ordeal for severl times. He does not free feed. HE HAS no access to food unless I provide it. He has access to free watering.

And then there is this from a previous thread in the food section:

Wait, 1 to 2 oz of raw meat? he gets that maybe too much. Because he will eat 50g of tripe which is 20z right there, then he gets cheese Mozerella as training bits, yoghurt or Kefir which ever I have, so in all he seems to be getting enough protein, I hope too much wont harm him. What about the vege part? That is like pulling teeth?

I find it funny that you find my replies so hilarious. It's really disturbing that you are going so crazy with the "LMAO's" to my completely unfunny posts...

I think it's about time for you to learn some manners. You are blatantly rude to everyone who tries to help you.

How do I need to learn to read? You listed what you feed your dog, and I replied.

Somehow, I think you're the one with issues. Please learn how to properly communicate without being rude. Do you honestly think you can come on here and talk like this to people?
