All my dogs get only DHPP and rabies. I don't do bordetella, corona, giardia, etc. At 3 years old, I stop getting them DHPP shots and just do titer tests every year and they get the 3 year rabies because it is required by law. The titer tests are more expensive than vacinations, but I'd rather not over vacinate my dogs. I don't get measle or other shots every year! And my immune system is weaker than my dogs'! My main vet is holistic and the other we only see for puppy vaccinations and 3 year rabies shots. (most holistic vets will NOT do vaccines)

Some people get very upset that I take my 12 week old puppy everywhere and have since she was 6 weeks old. I prefer/need to socialize early as she is training as a service dog. I just think that some people are too paranoid about never taking the dog anywhere until they've had all shots at 16 weeks. If I were to start socializing at 16 weeks and not before, she would never make it as a service dog.

My older dog Rhea hasn't had any shots other than rabies in 4 years and her immune system is very strong. She's been around dogs with full blown kennel cough (when I worked at a kennel) and has never gotten it, nor has she ever had the bordetella vaccine.

Achilles will still get his DHPP and rabies this year and he's got 2 more years to go. Then he's done with DHPP. He had mild kennel cough when we adopted him from the humane society, but our vet just recommended we let his immune system fight it off, instead of treating it and he's been fine ever since, and hasn't gotten it again.

It's a personal decision though. My family has been doing this will all our dogs and they have never gotten anything after we stopped vaccinating them. We actually lost one dog because of a bad reaction to a vaccine.
