Just got the most adorable Shih Tzu, he's almost 8 months, tan with a black muzzle and ears, he's going to be shipped to my home city tomorrow by air, about a 2 hour flight plus maybe an hour or more at the airport without a chaperone, I want to know when to feed it pre-flight, what to feed it and how much? also what to feed it right now as its just been picked up from the seller, I have to pass on insctructions to the person who will be shipping him to me and he's a total novice, his job was just to pick the pup and ship it, also require same information for liquids should it be given water and or milk and how often.

By the way its 10pm here in Pakistan thats around 1 pm Eastern USA, so its his dinner time, please reply soon I'm waiting anxiously.

When is his flight?

I've always heard people say that they feed a normal, but slightly smaller, meal the night before a flight (unless the flight is late the next day, then they feed normal rations), free access to water. The morning of the flight a small meal and take up water 4 hours before the flight so that the pup has a chance to be completely empty before being kenneled for the trip.

With a 3 hour flight/layover you really should have too many issues - I'd be more careful about feeding and watering for a long flight. Your friend should freeze water in whatever travel bowl will be with him so that it doesn't slosh all over the kennel during transport and make sure they know the rules about what to bring with and attach to the crate for the pup to be shipped - there are different rules for each carrier and some require food to be provided attached to the kennel even for short flights I think.

Hi and thanks for the advice, I asked around and someone else also suggested that exactly 8gms of food be given four hours before flight, I'm not sure what time his flight is, but am hoping he can be shipped by train with a chaperone as I requested the sender, that would be much better even though its a 24 hour journey, I am so excited, nervous anxious even kind of numb at the same time.

Didnt know you can attach a feeder to the crate or have frozen water.

He arrived safe and sound, was much bigger than the pics posted by seller, infact he looks fully grown than the 8 months I was told, also he's not very Shih Tzu looks wise for some reason but better in some ways.

Regarding his flight it was around 7 evening, he was sent off to airpot 4 hours before, when he should have gone just 1 hour prior flight, at arrival he stayed in cargo warehouse for three hours, his crate was clean, and so was he, no signs of disress but shy and hesitant, hes a cheeky one now but adorable.
