I don't think so! The few I've been to are like a regular sermon but they focus more on community issues, philosophy, ethics, and general spirituality instead. If you do follow a major religion, the church probably have smaller groups that meet during the week for things like bible study, meditation, etc and to discuss their specific religious text. I have enjoyed the few services I've attended at 3 Unitarian churches. A lot of focus on volunteerism and civic engagement at the first two.

I was raised UU. :)

UU congregations vary, but for the most part it's what milos_mommy described.

This is the kind of church I love most :) For the belief system and liberal approach. The only problem is I HATE the music. All the UU churches near us only sing hymns- very old fashioned. I'd love to find a UU church with the philosophies I so love- but the more upbeat modern music. Music for me is a big part of church going :(

I'm pretty familiar with the one closest to me, but I usually only go when my uncle is speaking. I love it; everyone is friendly, and we get to sing hymns. ;] That's a plus for me!
