One of my biggest pet peeves has become people talking about "red nose" and "blue nose" Pit Bulls. Even more irritating is when people call their black dog with a black nose "blue nose". Or their fawn dog with a black nose "red nose". I mean, if you're going to use that stupid term at least use it correctly!

Many of my facebook friends have Pit Bulls, and many of them call their dogs red or blue nose. My really good friend just got a black and white Pit Bull puppy....

Some one asked him "What kind is he?" and he said "Blue nose". I was like "He's so cute!!! His nose looks black to me." and he said "He's still a blue nose. -_-" I was like "I think blue nose and red nose doesn't mean anything, except the actual color of their nose. See?" And posted a link to an informative Pit Bull site. He then says "It doesn't mean anything lol. It's just a name not a breed." WHaaaattt?!

My mind is boggled. I always feel bad for my friend Christine, who is an educated Pit Bull owner who has a red boy... and everyone flocks around her on walks, yelling "is that a red nose?" :wall:

This is also a pet peeve of mine. I've seen it used more in regards to BYB'ed Pits. Not "actual" Pits, but what I like to call "street pits". Mutts, basically. But it's annoying regardless. Ask someone if their dog is part or full pit...and you get this long speel about nose color this, eye color that, BIG dog whatever...Okay? But...is it a Pit or not?

Red-nose, blue-nose, red blood, black blood, razorback...the names are countless. And I don't understand half of them. :p But the fact that the vast majority of them are BYB and used for nothing more than making a person look "gansta" tells me that none of them probably mean much....

But the majority of these people I'm talking about are from Memphis. So...go figure?

I'd love to know what it all actually means, though! Lol

For some small potatoes, it always irks me at work when they're doing a walk through with potential adopters and get to our two Pits. They'll say "This is Olivia, she is a Pit Bull Terrier, and this is Luella, she is a BLUE NOSE Pit Bull Terrier." FINALLY someone asked "What is the difference between the blue nose and her?" so I leaned over the wall and blurted out "The blue nose does not poop ever. It's a special breed trait." and felt so much joy.

I get asked if Grant is a "Blue Pit" all the time. I typically reply that "Blue Pits" are generally blue, not yellow with black pigment.

There are a TON of people around here who seem to think that "blue nose" and "red nose" are breeds rather than just nose pigment. My "pit bull" has a black nose, but I do have the much coveted "brown nose" lab-lol

I just tell them that they should wait until they see my littler of "purple-nosed pits". It's what you get when you breed a "rednose pit" to a "bluenose pit".

And then I educate them, whether they want it or not, and move on.

You see the same thing occasionally in other breeds. It's never just a lab here it's a black lab, chocolate, charcoal lab or a yellow lab. Also it's never just a cocker spaniel it's a parti spaniel, black spaniel, or a blonde spaniel (I've yet to hear one called buff.)

Yeah... when you've owned this breed as long as some of us it just becomes background noise.

I was very impressed to meet a guy breeding mini hawaiian purple nose pit bulls to an outcross of a california king pit bull once.

Now that, my friend, is creativity.

I saw an ad on craigslist yesterday that said,

"border collie/heeler puppies....half black border collie, quarter red heeler, quarter blue heeler."

It was fantastic. And the pups were "merle".

My husbands' cousin has a red rose, something blood, razor back, King whatever Pit. Two of them. And they were BRED to create exactly 2 puppies! How do you KNOW you're getting exactly 2 pups out of a planned litter? Hm. Anyway, they are mutant looking things. I might have to go find a picture.
