Giardia or coccidia comes to mind.

Some puppies are really bad poopers. I would visit a vet soon if you can get an appointment, but I would also not freak out about a drop of blood from straining. Like Aleron said, if it was something really nasty like Parvo, it's likely that she would have gotten worse by now.

As for fasting, personally I am a fan of giving a dog a night off from food in order to let their system fully purge all the food. Lets you start over in the morning with an "empty" dog.

You also should calm down a bit. I know this puppy is important to you but you need to quit dreading that something is terribly wrong. I'm sure the dog can sense your anxiety and may even feed off of it to a degree. Everything else with this puppy is A-Ok, so it's very likely that this is just a minor blip and you'll both get over it once you figure out what it is.

I would stop asking what to do and get the pup to a vet asap. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Pretty much this.

Stress (like going to a new home with "bigger" dogs) can cause soft stools, food changes can cause irritation and two doses of dewormer very close together can exacerbate anything else.

Vibes all comes back clear!

The vet I talked to said it sounds like coccidia, and that she should have her stool tested, but thinks she'll be fine to wait until this week to go in. There aren't any vets here open on the weekends, and of course we'll take her to the E-vet if we need to, but we're going to try and just do it early this week (monday, ideally... even if I have to take a day off school to take her in).

As of right now, we're fasting her for a little while with only a tiny bit of pumpkin and some yogurt this morning. She's doing well. When we feed her again we're just going to switch her cold turkey so that she's not eating a mix of both. We are also thinking maybe that the food is bad... ?

I'm keeping a close eye on her and we're ready to call an e-vet if we have to.

I know not everyone will agree with this, but having talked to a vet, and seeing the way she's acting, it's our plan of action for now.

I agree. Sounds like a good plan. Absolutely no need to rush her to the e-vet based on t he symptoms you've described. Hope she feels better!

Kiley had this happen shortly after bringing her home, she had the runs for a day and then started having blood in it. I freaked out thinking she had parvo or something. She ended up having Coccidia, thankfully!! It can be brought on by stress. I would schedule an app to see the vet :)

She's doing well. Today is day two of her bland diet thing and we talked to another vet yesterday for a second opinion, and she said to take a stool sample in, so we're going to do that. But she's great, romping and her stool is starting to look a little better. Not as pudding-y and more really soft ice cream cone now, :p. I know, now you'll think of Simi poop when you see those foods. And we haven't seen any more blood anywhere and she's not straining with nothing coming out anymore either.

We're doing one more day of bland diet and then we're going to start her back on our puppy food.

As a side note, she really likes chicken and rice. :p

So Simi went to the vet today, and she was SO good, but that's another post, and the fecal test thingy came back negative of anything that would be causing the prolonged soft stool. That said, the vet gave me a different kind of wormer to give her and has advised me what to do in terms of her food, etc., and so we'll see how it goes. Her stool was getting better as of today, so we'll see. :)
