whent out tonight for a drink and to meet a frined i havent seen in a very long time.
a good evening was had untill i left...
i hear squeeking from a trash can near my car...i open it to find a little black ball of fur squeeking.
in the bottom of the empty trashcan, a little black kitten

what the **** is wrong with people?
got her home shes incredibly sweet, frightend of the dogs but not overly so.
i offered her some wet food which she took readily, so shes eating on her own but shes fairly small, so im guessing 4-5 weeks old, 6 tops. no evidence of fleas (always good)
i think shes been an indoor kitten, or at least shes certainly not feral.

i just dont understand why anyone would do **** like this, realy what does it help, if shes eating on her own why the **** not jsut give her away, a post on craigslist and somone would have snapped her right up! theres not much worse you can do than the fate of drowning in trash or worse being crushed to death in a garbage truck.

its not even like theres a chance she got in there on her own...the lid was on securly with a bungee cord and there were no holes in the can that she could have climbed through...
*sigh*

i know my parents would kill me if i asked to keep her so ill be calling the shelter in the morning to see if they have space for her (its a no kill), least they can get her vetted and spayed.
im just concerned because kitten season has started...

but i need another pet like i need a hole in the head!
shes very cute though. right now shes bouncing round my bed like a lunatic. playing with the end of the collar i slipped on her so i can keep track of her by the bells ring lol.

currently her name is temporary lol ill get pics tomorow and update how the shelter goes.

Oh man, I'd be soooo angry at the world if I found a baby thrown away like that :( I'm glad someone who cared enough to rescue her heard her!

lol renee sooo true, i realy do want to keep her, i have a huge soft spot for black cats, and this one is a peanut. she spent the night curled up by my pilow, and then aound dawn started diving around the bed like a typical kitten, i was awake anyway, didnt sleep well at all last night thanks to forgetting to take my meds.
shes not in the least bit happy about the dogs, ive certainly seen cats more terrified than this but she is growling at jasper, who just wants to be buddies but has no clue how to interact with cats...
ruby could give 2 monkies, she doesnt care as long as shes getting tummy rubs lol.

she seems to have flecks of white paint in her fur, her nails are incredibly long too, but otherwise she seems very healthy...
and shes deifnatly not a stray/feral kitty. she purrs full force and loves attention.

i just dont understand it...
i mean this kitten will find a home so easily, im almost positive of it, that there was no reason at all to dump her like that...its not even like they dumped her as such, they tossed her away and then bungee corded the lid shut!

well i called the shelter...
there "full" of kittens BUT theyd be happy to take her for a minimum "Donation" of $45...

blink blink WHA?
yes folks thats right, for $45 they will take the abandoned little ball of black fluff that i found, stick it in a cage and HOPE it gets adopted...

what, pray tell is that $45 for when the adoption fee for kittens is $200 and covers shots and spay, this shelter gets free food from agway!
well its to "secure a cage space" see there so full right now that the only way to ensure they dont HAVE to put her to sleep is for me to essentially "buy" her way in...

UGH!

so "temporary" is going to be here for a little longer than i initially thought, gonna post her on craigslist and petfinder, im sure someone will want her, hopefully before i fall in love too much and loose my mind enough to try and convice me parents that she should stay lol.

oh and shes skinny as a rail but has a good appitite and is using the litterbox without a problem

Wow what a stupid shelter! Can you go to the vet and put ads?

For what it's worth though, the kitten might not have been thrown in the trash, cats even at that age can jump pretty high and it might have ended up in there and got stuck.

fran, i thought that at first, but the trashcan was empty and the lid was not only on but numgee corded shut, there were no holes...

its possible she somehow got in and someone closed her in by accident, but i dunno, shes got quite the mouth on her lol.

lol, shes super cute, i keep telling myself that my parents would kill me if i even asked, so im not going to...lol
im going to tell mum exactly what the shelter said and that ill be trying to rehome her myself...if she doesnt get any solid party interested in her that passes my aproval...its just meant to be. :p

Poor little kitty. :(

Most shelters have some sort of intake fee, that's not all that unusual. The shelter I adopted a few dogs from had a $50 fee and it was basically to A) bring in some extra money and B) to make people think twice about just tossing away their pet.

Poor little kitty. I'm so glad you found her tho. I'm sure you will find her a good home....or end up keeping her.

That's kind of how we acquired our black cat, Shadow - she was a semi-feral barn kitten that got stepped on by a horse so Sis and I brought her home 'until her leg healed'. 19 years later... ;) (She turned into a beautiful cat, too.)

Good luck, whichever way it goes!

well...temporary the trash can kitten may not be leaving if i can swing it...

dad will kill me, mum will be dissapointed but shes just too dang adorable and such a sweet kitty (and i have a huge soft spot for black cats...)
i had a woman come out this morning to take a look at her and she decided she wants a more snuggly kitten...
tempie is very snuggly when SHE wants to be, shes definatly not a pick up and be held kind of kitten though, infact she doesnt like being picked up much at all, but will come over and snuggle and purr like a lawnmower engine when she wants to, which is typically whenever shes not playing...which takes up about 90% of her time right now lol.

after this visit though the thought of her leaving made my heart ache, ive found and rehomed many little kittens, this is only the second time its actually made me feel like yicky...
so i think shes supposed to stay

aww it sounds like tempie doesn't want a new home, she's found one :))) I hope she can stay.

I have 5 black kitties,,I end up with the black ones,,but love em:)) If you have to place her, even check with your vet's office, I know mine ALWAYS has kittens up for adoption.

i have no idea where my cord has gotten to, ive got some realy funny ones of her typing the above jumble of letters while trying to catch my cursor while here on chaz lol
shes very cute, shes getting less hissy and reactive around jasper though jaspers still not entirely sure how to take her, cats = evil in his mind thanks to my sisters cat...

i think tempi is going to be perminent...
heck ive got enough food to last her a year at least, treats to last alifetime and once i get a chance a box full of toys from when we had the shop that are curently collecting dust in the garage that i can yoink a few out of before i try to sell them...
shes LOVING the scratching post....its got 3 flat "floors" and sits about 8ft high total fully carpeted. and she hasnt tried to scale my curtains once since i put it together...though she is still obsessed with playing with the string on the blinds and thinks rubys tail is some kind of self propelled flirt pole lol, she hasnt yet gotten the courage to get close enough to touch it, but she wants to lol.

her official name is Temporary The Trouble Maker, otherwas known as Tempi.
