It was Woody Allen who said "I learn from my mistakes. I can repeat every one of them exactly".

We in America can do the same. And we do. Regularly.
We once called Osama Bin Laden and his people "Freedom Fighters". We even trained them. They were our friends. We embraced Saddam and gave him the chemical weapons to help us out. He was our friend. We put the Taliban in place. They were our friends. We have a rich history of enabling people and teaching them how to use what we give them against us.

Truly, we never learn.

I am happy to say that the friend I referred to earlier in this thread also won the congressional election in our district.

God help us all... Nancy Pelosi is the new Speaker of the House. Will anything move in our government in the next 2 years?

I honestly pray from the bottom of my heart that the next 2 years are not ones of investigations, impeachment hearings and other such mud slinging. I really hope that the Democrats take advantage and faithfully execute their plan...

Wait, WHAT plan? [;)] "Vote for Change". What a stupid slogan.

/rant /pity party LOL
All that and ShrubCo will be labled a Lame Duck president.

Power corrupts.

Term limits for ALL.

No more fat salaries. No more fat pensions. No more fat public appearance fees while in office. No more lobbyists.

Let it be a sacrifice to serve, take the profiteering out of the equation and demonstrably remind those in government that they are there to serve the public interests, not their own and those of their cronies. Let it be an honor to serve, rather than a license to steal, and we will have more honorable men and women to serve and fewer thieves and arrogant, greedy buffoons.
I owe you a drink and your dogs their choice of ear scratchins or belly rubs.

We are taking the fight to this enemy. I know it is difficult to understand this, but our way of life IS at risk. No, not directly by the conflict in Iraq, but by the kind of people whom we are fighting. Withdrawing from Iraq, before a decisive victory will only make things worse, not better.

You must understand this enemy's motivation. They are not fighting for a country or a flag. They are fighting for their religion. Their faith teaches them that if you do not worship Allah, you deserve death. You think they will stop coming after us if we just run away?
Unfortunently there are two fronts to this war.

The results of this ellection make my daily pains much more, well painfull.

If things had been different Ild have sand at my feet instead of snow, I preffer the snow and that makes it that much more painfull.

Alaska has its first female govenor, and Young still represents us. The billion dollar a year tax on oil companies went down as well.

At least those in power only have 2 years to raise us up or flush us down.

Blue, my friend, except for an interlude of chaos, democrats were in charge of what happens to your guns for most of the past 60 years or so. Nobody has taken it from you yet have they? This is just one of those fear things politicians love to use. Your gun is your constitutional right. Just because you have seen other people's constitutional rights messed with in the past few years is no reason to believe it will continue now. Nobody EVER wrote a bill that said a person can't have his gun.Granted, some folks do occasionally have a problem with guns being in the hands of, say, psychotics, but you have to forgive that lapse of judgement.

Well ok there was that one law that recently sunsetted. The one that made automatic assault weapons illegal. I still am not sure why it is that someone would have a legitimate reason to have one, but I concede. However, I don't think shooting at a deer with an automatic assault weapon is sport. Well, yeah, it would be sport if we equipped the deer with assault weapons first and taught them how to use them.

Yes Blue, this is tongue in cheek. xo

WHAT LIES?!?!?!? I ask this all the time. What, exactly, did the President LIE about? Be very careful that you do not regurgitate "facts" presented by CNN et all.... If anything, ALL of out leaders were duped by Saddam.

This war has everything to do with terrorism. Perhaps it did not start out that way, but that is what it is now. What force will prevail? Freedom or Slavery? Like it or not, accept it or not, this conflict is about our way of life vs. another.

Finally, those heros are NOT dying in vain. They are dying to protect our way of life. It is a shame that we still bicker over stuff like this. Why is nobody willing to support difficult things anymore? Are we that spoiled as a people? We CAN win this conflict, but we need to act like we WANT to win.
Bush is definitely guilty of secrecy, distortion, deception and corruption. The administration cherry picked the intelligence on WMDs. One of the biggest lies was that Saddam tried to purchase yellow cake in Niger. They knew that was not true, because Wilson was sent to investigate the matter in 2002. And he found the claims to be groundless. Bush also tried to use the purchase of aluminum tubes as "proof" of a nuclear program, when the tubes purchased were not even suitable to be centrifuges. Bush also lied and said that there was an Al Qaeda training camp in Iraq. CIA analysts disagreed, and were correct.

Habeas corpus died on Bush's watch. There have been repeated violations of the Geneva Convention. Not to mention the violations of civil liberties due to the Patriot Act and the secret surveillance program. Not to mention the Halliburton scandal. Not to mention the $8,597,045,952,743 debt. I also really thank him for slashing funding for education and environmental protection. Thanks a lot! And the veterans he cares about SO MUCH, he cut their health care too. Thanks again! How can you sit here and defend him? I don't get it!

No matter what you claim, Iraq had NOTHING to do with 9/11 or Al Qaeda. And it didn't have anything to do with the "war on terrorism" UNTIL WE WENT THERE. The whole thing is our creation. We should have minded our own business in the first place. The reason we get so much crap is because we are always sticking out nose where it doesn't belong.

You criticize people for repeating things they heard on CNN when all you do is spout Fox News Bush rhetoric about "fighting them over there, so we don't have to fight them here."

Whether you want to hear it or not, the soliders are dying for a war that wasn't necessary at the time. We weren't in any immidiate danger, and they knew that.

And finally... I just have to ask... how is Islamic fundamentalism any worse than Christian fundamentalism in this country?

That's all for now, I have to get ready for work.

That is exactly my point.... You are trying to apply "reason" to an enemy that is not willing or able to reason. Unless you understand how this enemy thinks, you never will 'get it', until it is too late. Then, you can just blame Bush, the Republicans or whomever is the medias target of the day.

I will agree that the war has been HORRIBLY managed and the chief culprit of that is gone now. I might also agree that if we as a people don't have the stomach to WIN, then we should pull the troops out NOW.

What a lazy bunch of weak willed people we are.

Come on Melissa... Does this REALLY need to be explained to you?

"Artists" in NYC put a Crucifix in a jar of urine and call it "art". Christians complain, but nothing else.

A few cartoons are run in a newspaper.... Calls are made for Jihad, death and destruction.

Melissa, if you REALLY do not understand the difference between people of my faith and this enemy, fundamentalist Islam... I weep for you because you are blind as a bat.

I know that no nation state has the capability to attack the US. I also understand that the next attack (it IS coming) will be from people and weapons smuggled over our southern border. Shame on the current powers for not being decisive on that issue. I doubt the Dems will do anything about it either. If they DO, they get my vote in 08'. Really.

I disagree. Imagine what happens to the economy when they detonate a small nuke in the US? Better yet, watch what happens when Iran uses its first nuke on a Saudi oil terminal. Wanna see $10/gallon gas or more?

Our economy is MUCH more vulnerable than any tangible, physical target. That want our way of life gone, they don't care how it happens.

Super... Lets drill for all the oil we have HERE, then we can let them have their dirt. Then, once they keep coming after us perhaps we can unite and see this threat for what it is.

Our way of life is based, in part, on our economic success. However, that economy is VERY vulnerable to a physical attack on important infrastructure here and in other parts of the world. This enemy KNOWS this.

We MUST fight them, to WIN, everywhere and anywhere they show up. The price of freedom is eternal vigilence.

Yes, yes, the sky is falling and the world is going to come to an end.

Your kind, with your politics of fear have been soundly defeated.

This kind of nonsene is exactly what got America into Iraq. While the majority of Americans seem to be learning that it was indeed a mistake, there are fools who still abound. And far from making America safer, the Iraq war has made America even more vulnerable, as borne out by the results of the National Intelligence Estimate.

Karl Rove and his efforts to scare the people into voting Republican failed miserably. Your doom and gloom scenarios have failed to terrify the American people this time. Get it into your thick skull. You and your ilk have lost, been routed, humiliated.

I am surprised that you still come here and spout this garbage.

Well, what else can one expect from a man who lists George Bush as his hero.. LOL.

Honestly every time we have a "War On" we achieve nothing and it costs us plenty of money and lives. War On Poverty anyone? War On Drugs? War Ons are never winnable, especially if it's a war on a concept. How can you have a war on Terror? Terror is a feeling, a feeling of fear. Well we ever defeat fear? What is lacking in this war as an actual definitive purpose. A War On a philosophy is a Perpetual War. It's like trying to declare War On Dirt. Or War on Pimples. As soon as you get rid of one enemy another one pops up! It is impossible to win a war on feelings. Simply impossible. What we are saying here is we are at war with anyone who doesn't think like we do. very scarey because it amounts to:
Perpetual War: Stay The Course.

Absolutely nothing, take this quote from a fundamentalist:

We MUST fight them, to WIN, everywhere and anywhere they show up. The price of freedom is eternal vigilence.
You could easily turn that around and it is the same type of stuff Al Qaeda is saying about America.

Islamic fundamentalists are use the same kind of fear tactics over there that these fudamentalists are spewing over here.
