(two walks, actually - I took one, then the other, but it was the same route.)

Put Pepper on leash and head out for a quiet, relaxing walk.
Boys playing basketball = OMG. What is that. OMG. That is terrifying. OMG. That is the most horrifying thing I have ever seen in my life. OMG. IT KEEPS MAKING NOISE. WTF.
Dog barks from inside house = IT'S GOING TO GET ME.
Man using power saw in his garage = HE IS GOING TO SLICE US UP WITH THAT THING.
Car parked on street = OMG WHAT IS THAT. THIS IS THE MOST HORRIFYING THING I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE.
Black man wearing white hoodie = HE IS GOING TO END US BOTH.
Cars on street a quarter of a mile away = THOSE ARE CLEARLY GOING TO COME KILL US.

Back home, get Auggie. Take Auggie out for a walk.
Boys playing basketball = BASKETBALL YAY!!
Man getting bags out of back of car = WHAT'D YOU BUY IS THAT FOR ME?
Dobermans in house barking = HI FRIENDS LET'S PLAY!!
Man using power saw in his garage = WHAT ARE YOU MAKING IS THAT FOR ME?
Car parked on street = I'M GONNA GO THIS WAY AROUND IT, YOU GO THAT WAY, IT'LL BE FUN!!
Asian woman power-walking = YOU HAVE FABULOUS SHOES!!
Cars on street a quarter of a mile away = CAN WE GET ONE OF THOSE I LIKE THE RED ONE!!
Dad vacuuming out truck when we get home = HURRAY LET'S GO FOR A RIDE!!

Choose your moral:
To Pepper, everything is TERRIBLE. To Auggie, everything is AWESOME.
or
Pepper lives in a horror movie. Auggie lives in Teletubby Land.

lol it's like seeing my former life with Kim, but from a new perspective...

Gotta love those herders. They notice *everything*...so it's even more dramatic when they flip out over stuff...

*cheers for Beanie*

p.s. love the teletubby analogy hehe

Lacey use to be like that, omg I don't miss it. She would settle in the house though...

Auggie is awesome, and she will be too just give it some time. ;)

If only I knew. =/ Consensus here seems to be she's in a new home with new people so everything is terrifying now...

(I'm not trying to make light of it here, I'm actually worried and I feel bad for her. I'm just making fun of Auggie because he's a doofus.)

Isn't her former owner Auggie's breeder/your good friend? Was she this shy in her previous home?

Sucks not knowing. :(

Ugh she sounds quite like Trey. :( Unfortunately he never got over his fears. Hopefully she does a nice turn around. Fearful dogs can be very frustrating, I know.

Hopefully you can lead Pepper into understanding it's a mix of both and she can learn to be happy with her walk because your there and Auggie's there.

Yes, and no, not as far as I know unless it's a recent development. I will say this is worse than when she was here last time so it's possible it IS a recent development and it's getting worse... but there really isn't a "reason" for it. Nobody is abusing this dog, she's not living in an environment where she has something to fear, nothing like that.
It's bizarre for lack of a better word.

This morning my mom let her out and she pooped in the house. (???) My dad says she is getting braver and approaching him more readily though I don't really see any body language from her that signals she is more comfortable with him.
She has successfully learned to stay out of the kitchen when I'm cooking (she jumps on the counters and stuff and hasn't learned to not do THAT yet...) but since she can't be glued to my side during that time, instead she goes and stands under my desk which I'm guessing is probably one of a few places in the house where it smells the strongest of me... but at least she knows what I mean when I say "stay out."

Auggie is a very good big brother... that's the best part about this whole thing. He's a good boy and I'm so proud of him.

Hopefully she comes out of her shell soon, I'm sure all the change isn't helping her to be brave at all. I'm glad Auggie is being such a good big brother to her.
