Hello...We have a problem that seems unusual to me and I wanted to get some advice on the best way to correct this. This happens usually when my wife walks our dos - a 7 month old Australian Shepard. He will be walking fine but after a while he just becomes hard for her to control - jumping at her, spinning, and running in circles. It takes her quite a while before she can get him settled down. Then he will again walk okay. He usually walk very calmly with me, and I have only experienced this behavior one time, but I was able to get him under control relatively easily, and then he walked perfectly fine with me. I guess I was wondering if anyone had any ideas why he behaves in this manner, and some instructions that my wife could use to get control of him in these instances. We generally like to get him at lease a couple of walks in a day, with one at lease on long walk over 45 minute usually.

Any help anyone can provide would be appreciated. Thank You!

Do you have a fenced yard where he can run prior to the walk.It sounds like he just has some extra energy built up.Sasha my Gsd is the same so before our walks she goes in the back yard for 30 minutes to blow some steam. So she will listen and behave on the walk.

He's bored! Try walking him through some trails or something that offers more than just a straight line. When I take my Aussie on on-leash walks, I sometimes have the same problem, so we'll start jogging for a bit or jump up on a retaining wall...something to vary the time.

it sounds like she is having "leadership" problems..
the fact that he doesnt do this when you walk him prob means that he sees you as the leader..
tell your wife to take charge ..
never let the dog eat before her, she always walks out the door before him, he has to ask her permission before eating and so on..
my oldest was just like your dog, he showed me little respect.

Letting him run around for a while is nice for the dog but if he only behaves like this when your wife is walking him, it´s prob not because he´s got too much energy.

also remember that he is still a puppy.. and young dogs often go crazy .. jumping nipping aso.. be firm but dont get mad.

make sure he is mentaly stimulated.

Good luck.
