Hope this one works ok for everyone! Figured it's a good one to get us back in the groove of these TotW threads since it's not the hardest but it's not something a lot of people have trained.

It's a entertaining, can be used to stretch your dog off and you can make it more difficult by adding in distance or even going from a bow into a sit pretty.

So have fun, get creative and TRAIN!

This is Juno's default "you have treats but you're not giving me any, how about this?" trick, but I've never actually attached a cue to it. I'll try to make time for that :p

Ok! So I started it today with all three dogs and it went pretty well. I took video and these are mostly unedited, I cut some time from them but tried to leave in the process as much as I could.

First up, Didgie.

You can totally tell I had been working on Backup recently because she was getting super mad at me for not clicking for that. She still seems partially convinced she needs to scratch or backup in the bow so we'll work on keeping it more stationary.

And like all training with Didgie, her frustration manifests as NOISE.

Traveler apparently sat and watched me work with Didgie and figured it out. The start of this video is the start of my training, so when he just goes into the bow I have no idea where it came from since I've never done this trick before.

Later on in the video I'm trying to get him to keep his head on the ground.

And lastly, Fergus! Who has done very very little shaping so I was pretty proud of my doofus! He's convinced if he wants food he needs to just give me his paw so we had to work through that :p

Here's a video of Cohen's bowdownbowdownetc. We've been working on all sorts of position changes lately, so we do sit -> bow, down -> bow, etc.

I'm not sure how else I'll work on hers. If I find the time and energy I'll look into working with Mega too. She offers a bow fairly readily but I've never gotten around to capturing it.

I taught Kris to bow quite a while ago and sometimes wish I hadn't. If I am sitting down, she will come up to me and bow and just hold herself in that position for the longest time waiting for a treat, her butt up in the air and her little tail wagging a mile a minute. I don't give her a treat unless I have asked her to bow but that does not stop her from trying.

When we are doing Obedience and have finished she thinks that is the time to do her bow as she knows it makes me laugh.

Linds, I loved when you said 'this is a quiet bow!' and Didgie groaned. :rofl1:

And it is super disturbing when they learn by watching each other, and Fergus is adorable.

Here's ours! I called it curtsy because bow sounded too much like down. :)

Sekah! That is so great! I think that's going to be my end goal, I love it!

Oko, I love that as soon as you took your hands away she was like "I GOT IT!" She's doing so good! I also really like your cue. I don't know what I'm going to call it so I might steal that from you for Didgie but for the boys I don't know, Bow seems so boring.

And yes, Didgie is the Queen of backtalk

OMG Linds I loved all of your guys. They are so fun to watch <3

Feist is adorable, as always.

Sekah, that's amazing. My two know bow already so I think I will try to add it in during position changes.

I use "take a bow" because of the sounds-like-down thing.

I always feel bad not including Bubby in these things, but she just like doesn't care LOL. She's such a lump :p

I wish I had thought of calling it something other than "bow" as she does sometimes get it mixed up with "down". I don't know if it is too late to teach her to do it with a different word like "curtsy"?

It's never too late. It's an easy switch if you have a hand signal paired with it.

I definitely run into issues when I'm cuing Cohen down and she bows, or vice versa. I find that mostly she distinguishes the cues via hand signal or situationally.

Going to attempt this with Chomper today! Bow is something I've for some reason always had a bit of trouble training, so we'll see how we do. :p

Started this with Bloo today, with the cue "finale" rather than "bow", since she was getting mixed up with bow/down. Will try to get a video tomorrow!

Played a bit with Gusto last night, although I didn't tape anything. He really, really wants to go down as soon as I start asking for anything since that is his default. On the plus side, the work I've been doing to get him to trick train without barking SEEMS to be actually helping. I love that I taught him to bark on cue, because it helps his stress on the startline, but good lord did it make playing with him at home less fun!

Our cue is going to be the same one I used for Tristan's bow - Ta-da!

Try tossing the treat forward the moment the elbows hit the ground. Or do it up against a wall so he doesn't have room to down.
