Any recommendations? I am looking at two written by Kyra Sundance, was wondering if anyone had any good/bad suggestions for neat tricks?

What kind of tricks do you want? I have no suggestions for books, as I've never read any but here's some that Jack can do. I'm always looking for more suggestions too.

Tricks to do with a simple 'Take it'
- get a kleenex when you say Achoo
- Open/shut crate doors
- Pull strings for lights
- Get a drink from the fridge or cooler
- Play basketball (I have a mini ball and hoop)
- Get and hold tail

- lift leg on command
- limp on command
- hold a paw up (I call it Be Lassie)
- Yawn
- Shake head
- Snap/snarl/growl on command
- Boing (jump straight in the air)
- bow
- Blow bubbles in a bowl of water
- Spin
- Figure eight through your legs
- Cross front legs (be a lady?)
- Walking weave through legs
- Hide eyes (My dad says Salute!)
- Roll over
- Play dead
- Sit up

"Idiot's Guide to Dog Tricks" is a good one. I think there's also "The Only Dog Tricks Book You'll Ever Need" or something like that, I saw it at the store and it looked pretty thorough. :)

I don't know if it's still available, but "How To Teach An Old Dog New Tricks" has some pretty cool stuff in it, too.

I have some of my guys "tricks" on Youtube

He gets me anything I point at or ask for if it's something he can identify. Just today he brought my laundry bag down from upstairs (again), turns on/off lights, brings in bags or light boxes from my truck. I don't like the term tricks tho. I have taught him basics and names of items, but after that it's pretty much up to him to put 2 and 2 together. Of course I lead him to the answer if he trips up, but you'd be amazed at how well he does. If I drop something on the floor, he understands that's a human mistake and will automatically pick it up and give it back to me or whoever has dropped it, or place back where it fell from. Just this morning we knocked the timer off the end table while playing and he stopped to pick it up and put it back on the table. Also takes his snack dish I give him a bit of my dinner scraps in out to the kitchen and hands it to me to wash at the sink. He makes me proud.

This one?

Amazon.com: How to Teach Your Old Dog New Tricks (9780812045444): Ted Baer: Books

I had this book years and years ago, and I remember is was pretty good. Course, that was a long time ago! Thanks for posting it, I've been trying to remember what the title was but all I could remember was the Samoyed!
Yep, that's the one! Of course, by the time I bought it, all the things Mick could still physically do he already knew, but I knew it's come in handy in the future!

How do you teach that one?
For a dog that offers behaviors and knows how to learn, I'd use shaping (like I did with Jack). Set the bowl of water in front of them and reward for any interest in it. Eventually only reward if their nose gets close to the water, then in the water, then hold their nose in the water. They will naturally breathe out creating bubbles, so then only reward that.

Other dogs, like my Micki and Mini, that won't offer new behaviors I used luring? I dropped little pieces of kibble or cheese in the bowl and then they'd drop their face in the water and I'd say "yes" as soon as their face hit the water, causing them to come up, and reward them. Since the food was still in the bottom of the water they'd go for it again, I'd reward them. Eventually I took out the food and would point to the water and they'd stick their nose in, and get rewarded. I originally let them eat the food from the bottom - but that's a big mistake. Micki ended up puking up a bunch of water right back into the bowl
