LOVE the ones of him eating ice cream.
That's about the only good thing he did yesterday. Stupid.

Awww, Trav am I really going to have to come up and let Blaze show you how to jump? :p
Yes, yes you will have to. Right now. This minute. NOW.

Did he ever watch an older experienced dog jump? Wonder if that would change his mind set to watch another dog getting his ball/bumper?
No we weren't able to do that but it's a good idea! I need to find someone with a pool to practice in because that really seems to be the issue. Today we weren't out and he was taking flying leaps off of a drop off into water after his ball. Hate. Him.

OMG. :rofl1: He looks like Spider Dog!! Silly Trav.
I wanted to kick him in SO bad!! Was killing me.

Poor Traveler, I'm sure with another chance he will get there in the end! How was Mackenzy at it, did she enjoy it more than him?
Once she figured out it was water she got one decent jump for her first time in! She was content to just swim in the pool though :rofl1:

:rofl1: Too funny, I bet he will catch on soon. This is exactly how it would go down if I tried to dock jump with Desoto. Except he would alternate trying to reach his ball with shooting dirty looks at me and grumbling. :lol-sign:
:rofl1: Dogs, they keep us on our toes.

Traveler just went between trying to get the ball to come to him by paddling his front feet and looking at the crowd and wiggling while turning his ears on and off

So this is why Traveler sent me a letter asking me to steal him away...poor guy...I'm on my way!
I think that's a good idea, then Mira can show him how it's done!

LAnd how cute is he curled up at your feet like that <3 What a super boy.
He was cute then, even though he was a butt

Linds, jumping into pond water? I bet he was just nervous about jumping into a clear water pool with a blue bottom.

Reminds me of my dog, Zim! He wouldn't even touch water in a puddle, let alone dock dive! Brought a real challenge to myself to say the least, to get him to where he enjoyed it! Now he needs to dock dive anywhere he can, lol! :D We go to the lake, VROOM, he's taking off to dive in off the dock. I'm sure Traveler will like it with time! :) Maybe you need to just throw some ice cream off the 'dock'! :p

The pool at a dock diving event is different for dogs that will jump into a lake no problem. I had an insande jumping dog. off of boats, off of docks, off of floating rafts, thru people on a dock, short ones, ones 7 feet off the water, didn't matter.

Took her to an outing probably the same as you did, and she jumped, but was a tad hesitant. It wasn't a launch it was a run up and jump, but not the all out launch she usuallly had.

Of course it was 3 hours of waiting and 10 bucks for the one jump, so I never went back to one again, but i'm sure once is all it would take for a dog that knows diving, to see that it was the same as it was used to everywhere else, and everything would be fine

Well, a Quarry lake but same difference. He really really has taken to jumping into the water so at least I know he'll do it. Just need to find someone with a pool to practice in. There is a place near us (For Your K9 Shai) that has a pool that my friend and I can go to for 30 minutes and 45 dollars (so 22.50 each) just to get them to understand that it's still water.

That's great you were able to get him from water hating to jumping off any dock! Very nice!!

I kept telling the people if they could have tossed me in with a giant chuck-it all would have been good.

Sounds fun to me!

Can I keep him after? Pretty please?
Possibly. He's kinda a buttface. I'm sure Web would just be thrilled :rofl1:

Yeah, I wish it had been set up so that I could have walked him in the water or taken more time to coax him in.

Glad your girl jumped though! May not have been her real jump but at least it wasn't 3 hours and Spider Dog on the ramp

spider dog :) it is intimidating to a lot of dogs though. The day I went, the overwhelming majority of dogs didn't jump. and about half that didn't jump didn't go in the water at all, even off the ramp. and I sat thru a lot of dogs believe me.

I think it would have been better if there was a time limit. Give the dogs that need a chance a good chance to get in, but dogs that will jump should at least get a few attempts. I had no problem with them giving some dogs 10 minutes to try and get in the water, it was supposed to be a fun event, so the owners and dogs should find some success. But when we walked up, downed her, walked to the end and had her jump, it was over in 30 seconds and that was with a short swim to check out the sides, I think we should have gotten at least 3 minutes or so :) I'm such a whiner.

Yeah, Traveler just this Spring and Summer has decided he likes water and it's only the past two months or so that he will swim. So it really wasn't a shocker.

We had a time limit of two minutes which just wasn't enough for us. Honestly, even three minutes I think I would have gotten him in. He was getting really close towards the end. And even for the people that dogs would jump by the time they got them back from getting their toy, had them figure out where the ramp was and back up to jump again two minutes wasn't enough.

That's ridiculous you only got to have her jump once! I would have been rather put out too if you waited that long and got one quick jump.

I'll join you in your whiner corner

2 minutes!?!?!?! that's it? jeez, the one I went to, it was easily 10 minutes for almost every single dog. They really coaxed and spent time with dogs, sometimes I thought it was counter productive, but seriously,2 minutes?

I guess they just want to get people thru and get their 10 bucks :)

but once dogs start to love water, it can almost be a pain. My dog that would dive like crazy would start pacing and whining in her crate whenever we drove by water. She could smell it in the air.

My other dogs like water, and will jump pretty well off a dock, but not like her. I miss her a lot these days.

Our DDing club practices have a limit of 3 throws or about 7-10 minutes per turn and most people have 2-3 turns, or more! plus it's free, though they encourage membership after your second practice. Of course the club also has their own dock at a lake, so we still have challenges when the dogs go from pond to pool, but still!

Ok good, not just me who thought two minutes just wasn't enough time! Ten minutes would have been awesome! Though I could have seen some people that there dog wanted nothing other than to get as far away from that dock as they could, ten minutes for them would have been torture.

I know what you mean about a pain once they love water, though I don't think anywhere near your girls extent. Traveler still won't swim off a drop off sometimes after a ball but he will stand on the show and shake and whine/cry for you to throw the ball into the water for him.

What was she? She sounds like such an awesomely fun dog

Linds you need to road trip to an Ultimate Air Dog event then. For about $10 you can play around on the dock and pool between official splashes...you only get a few minutes at a time if there are others waiting but then you just hop in line and go again in a few...don't keep paying.

Mira had no issues transitioning to the pool but she didn't jump out quite so far at first. Even when they happily jump into the pool, that image of running out into...solid earth and people (seeing beyond the end of the pool) instead of the expanse of water they are used to seeing in ponds, etc.

She was a GSD too, but we lost her in September last year and she was awsomely fun, except the fact that any dog I didn't make friends with first, she wanted to kill. That was no fun for a while, till we got it under control.

But she really was the do everything dog. SchH titled, trial till she was 9 and still could have after had I cared to enter her. Went to nursing homes and a couple hospital visits (though the hospital was just to see my gma, she was called in for extra visits). Parades, loved to hike and run and run while I biked. and when I was chilling in the house, she'd be right there next to me. and for as loving as she was, she was one dog where I have no doubt would have torn someone up if it came down to it.

I love my dogs now, and they certainly have their strong points, but I haven't had any that had all that she did. Anyway, i'll have to dig out my old HD and see if I can dig up some pics of her jumping.

That sounds perfect! I will definitely check it out.

That's cause she's the awesome!

She really does sound like a one in a million dog. Tons of fun and the personality to go with it. How long ago did you have her?

Hope you can find the pictures! I would love to see them
