What is the best way to train for this? I have two that do not notify me at all they need outside and it sucks sometimes. Is this hard to do?

Thanks!

When I was potty training, I put the bell on the door that I took the dogs outside. So that every time we went outside the bell rings first.

And they just picked up that hitting the bell meant to go outside.

It is always hanging on those doors. So whenever they open and we go outside the bell rings.

And I made sure that whenever they ring the bell, I absolutely would stop what I was doing and take them out.

I never thought about doing that - however it would have to hang really low from the door for my crew to reach it. :rofl1:

I recently trained my Boxer puppy to ring a bell and it was ridiculously easy.

I attached a bell to a string and hung it on the dog while my pup watched. He immediately walked up at touched it with his nose. I praised and we went outside and I told him to "hurry up." He didn't within a minute or so and we went back in. Later, he wen over to the door again and played with the bell. I did the same thing as before and he went this time.

By the third time, he just walked up, rang the bell, and sat down till we came over.

The next day, he would ring the bell once and, if we didn't respond right away, he would ring and ring and ring. The nerd!

It is VERY important that the puppy is already mostly potty trained. If not, it won't work. This is great for the puppies that are already by the door waiting to go outside and, when they do have an accident, it is near the door, implying that the puppy knew they needed to go outside.

Mine does hang low to the floor. I have toy breed dogs. And they just bat it with their paw.

Oh, and my dogs were not potty trained when I started using it. I used it as part of potty training. So it should work either way. Mainly the dog associates it with going outside. And then once they also learn that they go potty outside, well, it seems to click in their minds.
