I need to train my Jack Russell to come when I say come. He knows what come means or to come if I say his name and he will do it if he's in the mood to. He knows tricks (Sit, shake, roll over, lay down, shake with the other hand) and he will do them if he wants to. So he's very smart, he's to smart. We have an under ground fence and everyday he tests his boundaries to check how close he can get, and since he wears the battery out so much usually within a month or two he can walk right through the fence.
Back on-topic. I was letting him play with his golden retriever friend which is outside of his fence. He decided to go sniff something and probably found a squirrel trail. When I told him to come he heard me, knew what I meant, and looked right at me as to say "I'm busy, I'll come later". I know if my dad told him to come he would come, out of fear though, because apparently he's top dog. I think he knows I'm above him in the pack but I guess I'm not above him enough? I want him to listen to me but I don't want him to fear me the way he does my dad? How do I get it into him that when I say come I mean it?
