My dog just started in agility a few weeks ago. She doesn't have much tug drive, and I would like build it both for agility and our regular obedience training. I was lurking a few weeks back and remember reading about a tug toy that you place a treat in, but can't find the post now. If anyone could tell me the name of the toy and where to find it I would be greatful. Thanks!

I use a French Linen tug from fordogtrainers.com for Blue. I actually rotate between the tug and the tennis ball for his rewards for training. Sometimes also incorporating food.

Just be warned: not every dog wants a tug as a reward. Teeny currently wants NOTHING to do with a tug toy. When we do OB she is food and food only. For agility it is a balance between the joy of doing the obstacles and the food reward at the end.

Your motivator depends on the dog, so if your dog doesn't like tug then find something else!!!

Thanks for the quick responses! I'm going to order the Dunkins Stuffer Toy and give it a try.

Sismorphine, I see what you mean about not all dogs wanting to tug. My girl likes doing the obstacles and food, but her interest in toys is mainly confined to destroying them. (She is so methodical about it, like a destructive engineer.) I figure if I can't teach her to tug, I'll store the toy away for a future dog.

That made me LOL! That describes what Dekka does to toys. And once they are deconstructed they are 'done'

Some high end agility instructors want you to teach your dog to tug, or conversely teach your dog to accept a food reward.

This one is also available from Clean Run:

Clean Run: Tug It Training Toy

If anyone is interested, I'll sell both the beginner and advanced version for a discount! I got both, thinking this would FINALLY be the answer to teaching Meg to tug. The first time food leaked through the holes in the beginner one, she gave it an "ewwwww - it's leaky" look, and refused to touch it again . Drama queen.
