I've been feeding my dogs Taste of the Wild for nearly a year now, and there has been some vast improvements as far as their health - even their breath is way better! A relative of mine is also feeding her dogs TOTW, because it's the only thing that is "inexpensive" and healthy at the same time. However, her GSD/Husky mix, Ozzy, has been having... issues with it, and once in a while my pom, Little, will have problems with it.

It doesn't seem to affect her other dogs and my other one as well, but Ozzy just seems to be bothered by it. Once in a while she'll get diarrhea and won't be able to make it to the door to warn her owners.

A couple times I forgot and bought the large bag of TOTW, which seems to go bad after a while because it's got all natural preservatives in it, and Little would get bad diarrhia and start vomiting - waking me up in the middle of the night because of it. Well, as soon as I discovered that I stopped feeding him immediately, but the weird thing was that Bambi was perfectly fine eating it while Little was miserable.

Could this be what is happening to Ozzy? How many of you guys have had trouble with TOTW?

I tried it a couple of years ago, introduced it slowly and all my dogs have stomachs like cast iron. At different times, they would refuse to eat, vomit and/or have diarrhea. That happened twice and I threw out the rest of the bag bc it didn't happen to one of my dogs but all of them (6).
And I didn't find it made my dogs look any better than the other foods I typically feed which is Orijen and Wellness combined.

Like all foods, some do great on this, others don't. I had issues with it, but it's one of th best sellers in the store.

Conversely, I've never had a problem with it. Enzo looks better than ever on it and Evolution 95% beef canned. She gets the canned because even with the higher kcals in it, she doesn't maintain her weight on it. But that's just Enzo. And she doesn't maintain weight well on ANY food. I've always had to supplement her when we're working hard. Even before daycare for 7 hours, if we were actively training, her weight would drop.

Gavroche does amazingly well on it. He does get the runs occasionally, but I haven't linked it to the TOTW. But not every food is good for every dog. Logan does great on Diamond Naturals but Gavroche breaks out in red spots when he eats it.

If I could afford it I'd feed Orijen. I'm really impressed with their food and I wish it wasn't so insanely expensive. TOTW is a great price for grain-free.

I have had no issues with Taste of the Wild OR the Costco generic version of it, Nature's Domain. This is the one brand, other than Nature's Variety that Saga has done extremely well on. We don't have poo issues at all, she maintains her weight and the output is small.

It isn't weird that one of your dog's tolerates a food differently than the other: they're different dogs. What works for one, doesn't necessarily work for another. ;)

If the bouts of tummy upset and the runs are infrequent, I would be looking at a different source, myself. Do they get treats? Could they have gotten into something, in the yard or elsewhere? I know Saga can't "do" chicken, she is icky almost continuously on it.

Both of my big girls eat totw and the only time we have an issue is if we try to switch formulas too quickly. ;) Other than that they both do fantastic on it!

I'd love to get Wellness... I keep seeing it every time I go into Tractor Supply, but it's so much more money than than TOTW. Right now we're not having issues with it, but when we got to the bottom of the bag (with the big bag) Little's gut was in turmoil.

It is true that Ozzy doesn't just eat TOTW... I don't know why I didn't think about it before (apparently I'm loosing it), but she does steal food off the counters. I've tried to teach them how to stop her from doing that, but I might as well talk to the moon.

The responses seem to be pretty equal though as far as success goes, so I think as long as I just get the really small bags I'm okay. Thanks, guys!!
