When it comes to naming your pet, PetPlace.com suggests you might want to observe your new pet for a few days and see if the personality suggests a name. Here are some more pet-naming tips from PetPlace:

Choose a name that your pet will easily recognize. Some experts say the ideal name is two syllables ending with a vowel sound, like Sami or Lassie.

Avoid names that sound too much like standard commands. For example, when you call Snowy or Joe, your pet might only hear "No."

Pick a name that will be just as appropriate once your pet is full-grown. A pup named Damage or Havoc may eventually grow up to be a quiet, stately dog.

Pick a name that you will be proud to call. Shadow or Molly might be less embarrassing than Ooga Booga or HeyYou.

My ex boyfriend named hi dog "dog" took lots of brains to think of that one. It is after John Wayne's dog "dog"

Well Roxy's or Spud's names aren't up there. But Precious, Gracie, and Oreo are. At least I have two originals!

Oooh Harley is at number 15, and Abby is at number 16! :D I've never met another dog named Abby, and I've only ever met one other dog named Harley... but that was about 10 years ago.

I have to tell ya that I've met plenty of Harleys (I'm a biker - best thing is that it's usually Honda riders who name their dogs as such!!! I've yet to meet a Harley owner who's called his/her dog "Honda" :D :D :D )

Oh Well, that's alright none of my names are there either. We have4 dobermans, Raven(female bk/rt) Spirit(Male bk/rt) Gypsy (female Bk/rt) Iris (female Bl/rt) then the two cats. TT and CC.
Now we did have a poodle when I was 13. Mom was trying to name her all sort of dumb names. I said let's call her DD. :D Well Mom thought it was DEE DEE. No Mom it is D.D. It stands for Dam Dog. Because every time the dog does something it will be --'GET THAT Dam DOG OUT OF HERE-- LOOK WHAT THAT Dam DOG DID--ECT...
Well that poor poodle went through 15 years of life as DD and on the AKC papers it says Dam Dog :D

What a coincidence! :D Harley is actually named after a pony my sister rode, and Abby was originally called Baby (which is kind of weird because Baby is an anagram of Abby)... It took us forever to choose a name for Abby because every name my sister and I liked my mum didn't! :p

Well Oceano's not up there....LOL I'm the kind of person who hates having something the same as someone else - and the same goes for my pet's names too. I will never name a dog Max, Blue, Sparky, etc cause everyone else's dog's named that and it gets way to confusing at the dogpark LOL I like to be original. When I first got my duckling everyone kept telling me to name it daffy or donald. I was like NO WAY!!!!!! and he got the name Patinho de Sorte, anybody else know a duck with that name? LOL

I like more original names, too. I hear so many Snickers, Hershey, and Cocoa....and for some reason it drives me nuts!! I remember when we had a little gosling...we named him Sneakers 'cause we thought it was cute, plus he loved to take walks with us. Some day my sister and I want to get a pet and call it Artichoke....it's a joke between us, LOL.
