My dogs from now on will most likely be rescues, so I will probably end up with some more mutts over the years, but this is my list as far as purebred dogs. I have not researched all of these breeds enough to know if they would fit my lifestyle, but these are the top ten pre-research. Besides the top one these are not really in any particular order:
1. Boxer
2. Great Dane
3. German Shepherd (my husband wants one as our next dog)
4. Doberman
5. Irish Wolfhound
6. Border Collie
7. Aussie
8. Keeshond- the breed I had growing up, my parents still have him, but it is getting close to his time to leave us.
9. Weimeraner
10. Westie
I'm not a small dog person, but I've met more and more over the years that I could see myself living with. I will probably never seek out a small breed, but if I somehow ended up with one, it wouldn't be a big deal. I hate to say there are breeds I will never own, as I go more off the personality of the individual dog and what feels right, but the breeds I would never seek out are:
Huskies- It is highly likely I will own one, however. My uncle has a husky currently, and probably will have one for the rest of his life. I am the only person he will trust to leave his dog to. He is constantly reminding me that I will get Jinx if something happens to him. So I will have to try to make it work if I can. Honestly, I'm the only person in the family who could handle that dog if needed. He's not a bad dog, but I'm the only one who has the patience to train him and deal with his seizures properly. I love the breed, just not for me.
Beagle- I have a beagle mix, but 3 family members have, or have had purebred beagles. They are just not the dog for me.
Chow
Pomeranian
These are all breeds I have had experience with through other people and have decided I would not want. I rarely meet a dog I absolutely can't stand, and most of the time the dogs I know that I don't like being around are entirely due lack of training.
