Renee actually had a good idea.. you could keep one or two of the small accessories as a compromise.
LOL. I am already keeping my engagement ring and wedding band. :p

Seriously, I would sell those in a heartbeat. I know that might sound cruel and heartless, but they just aren't my style. When I think of an engagement ring, I think of an antinque white gold band from the late 1800's or early 1900's with a nice half-carat round diamond. For a wedding band I wanted a thin, plain white gold band.

But nooooooooo.......I have the good fortune of having a monster-in-law that is a jewelry buff. So instead I end up with an engagement ring that most women would love, but it just isnt' me. It's the 3 stone princess cut ring with a 1 ct. diamond in the center, 2 .33 ct. diamonds on each side, and then it's got more diamonds in the band itself and even more. It's hard to explain because it's a custom made ring. The wedding band also has the princess cut diamonds all in the band and they line up with the accent diamonds on the engagement ring. It's all set in platinum.

Honestly, it's very pretty, but I am NOT a flashy jewelry person and I hate that my husband paid so much for the set (his mom paid a $1,000 on it because I guess it was her idea, but he spent well over a year paying for the darn things). Also, as a vet tech, fancy, expensive rings aren't exactly a great match. In fact, I've already lost them in the dog yard once and although I found the engagement ring that same night at about midnight, I didn't find the band until the next day when a wonderful Beagle mix kept sniffing at something in the grass. And then I'm constantly dipping my hands in bleach water, playing with Roccal, and heaven only knows all the other wonderful goodies those rings come into contact with. But.........if I don't wear them, he gets upset.

I would love to sell them and get a more plain, more "me" set that would be appropriate for wear at work as well. But that's never going to happen. I made the mistake of mentioning it once when we were really strapped for cash and I thought he was going to blow a gasket.

I was. And now that I'm at home with the kids until they go off to preschool/school, I still don't have the need to wear them.

Agh. I'm sure I'm coming off as ungrateful and that's not the way it is. I promise. I guess I just see them more as something to fall back on if we need the money (& earlier this year, things were shitty and we were in a huge financial hole....we're better, but I still have a lot of medical debt).

maybe it's good that he feels that way about them. bc in order for him to part with them you will have to REALLY need the money. so you won't end up getting a cheaper ring when you "could use money" and then really need it later and not have them.

I'd definitely sell it while it's still fashionable. It's just something else to clutter up the closet. It had it's moment in the sun and you get to keep the delightful hubby.
