So, I have used rose geranium oil on Middie's collars and leashes for a year or two now and have seen about two ticks on him in that time period, as opposed to the "two ticks every time we go on a walk" like it was when we used just Frontline.

I had neglected to apply the frontline until Saturday - I really should have started in April - so now we're using that and RG oil.

But I found two ticks on him today! WHAT THE HELL? Is Frontline using tick attractant now? We haven't done anything different than our usual, and the second I give him the frontline he gets ticks.

Frontline does seem to attract fleas and ticks. I quit using it a few years ago.

Hang garlic around his neck while walking him? If it doesn't work for fleas and ticks it will at least keep vampires away. :) Not that you mentioned them...:)

I'm pretty sure that Frontline has helped ticks evolve a liking for it and thus it is an attractant. I haven't used Frontline in years and haven't used a single thing since moving out here and going on raw. Haven't found a single flea or tick either.

Frontline doesn't have a repellant, but I've not seen it acting as an attractant here. In addition to Frontline (since it won't repel and the tick has to bite to die) or before I start Frontline in the spring, I use Miracle Coat No Fly Zone spray and seem to have good success with that.

Some of the people with the rescue swear by this recipe:
herbal formula is for ticks only. It is 2 tbs. of almond oil mixed with 10-25 drops of rose geranium oil. Place in a container, and shake. I usually place about 6 drops total on the collar and leash every 2-3 weeks. It can also be used on human skin or clothing.
Unfortunately I'm allergic to almonds, so I've never used it  But, I thought it wouldn't hurt to share...

:rofl1:

No ticks in CO. Or not many.

I use that - I stated it in the original post. It has worked better than anything else I've ever tried to repel ticks.

Maybe we'll switch to something else. What other tick-killers are cat safe?

All I can say is EWW Ticks. So glad we have none in AB.

But we might be moving to BC and that place is tick infested. That natural recipit looks interesting. I might try in this summer when I go to BC.

Hayley, if you go ANYWHERE with ticks it's worth buying. Put two drops of the straight RG oil on a collar, sneakers, clothing, etc and you wont find ticks no matter where you go. I've worn it into tick infested woods where friends had 10+ on them and I had none, and we were on exactly the same trails and underbrush.

YAY thanks. I will be buying some of that oil for Tyler since he is living there right now. And already he has been finding ticks on himself. *Shudders*

Creepy things. YUCK!

Thanks for sharing that recipe, the dogs and I like to walk through the fields back behind out house, and with the number of deer(and therefore deer ticks) in the area, plus all of the other ticks i have seen, this sounds like a good idea.

ETA: ... I HATE ticks as well :p
